Does anyone have a soda stream just for water?

Does it save money in the long run, or is it just a bit better for the environment?

DH and I only drink sparking water at home. We tend to buy cheaper ones for everyday so it's 50p-£1 for a 2 litre bottle. We drink at least one of these a day. We recycle the plastic bottles.

If I were to get a soda stream, which one would anyone recommend? Lakeland only have one review each so it's not that helpful 😆

We do! Also just to cut down on our plastic use. £40 in sale at Xmas.

MadisonAvenue · 06/02/2019 13:58

I got one a couple of months ago and really love it. Our tap water doesn't taste very nice and I was conscious of how many plastic bottles were going into the recycling bin as I was buying sparkling water every week.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/02/2019 14:04

Yes we do.

Pp asking about syrups - you can use any flavours including bog standard squash / cordial. The Bottlegreen Ginger & Lemongrass is AMAZING made up with fizzy.

For a good 6 months when learning to talk, DD called water 'normal' ie as we always ask - do you want fizzy or normal!!

My parents have a tap that carbonates their water
They like it so much they have two actually 🤗🤗

You could always buy your sparkling water in glass bottles, if soda streams are not any cheaper, and you want to avoid plastic

Perrier

Highland Spring

There might be other brands available too if you look around.

Thank you ☺️

I am getting the glass one today! Thanks for the tip about amazon being cheaper 👌🏻

Well done, ChipButty! Now you just need a Mr Frostie and your life will finally be complete. Grin

Neverunderfed · 06/02/2019 14:53

I got one for £20 direct from soda stream when they had an offer on, it's been fab. Might look into making tonic water with it as that's the only plastic bottle we buy regularly now 😂

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 06/02/2019 15:02

We do. We have excellent quality tap water so when we want fizzy water we prefer to use that in the SS rather than buy other water in. It's also cheaper and involves far less lugging of crates full of water!

ChipButtyNotABap · 06/02/2019 15:04

@FetchezLaVache I have resolved to get a Mr Frosty for the next child's birthday. That's not quite as sad as a 40 odd year old woman buying one for herself, is it? 🙈

I swear MN can read my mind sometimes. I’ve been looking at getting one too. Wondered about the tonic water. Can anyone tell me what it tastes like though? Does it make a good G&T?! Thanks.

CheeseRolls · 06/02/2019 15:14

Sorry if I've missed this but what is the recycling situation of the gas canisters?

Graffitiqueen · 06/02/2019 15:45

There are usually two prices for the gas cannisters, I get mine from Argos. One price just for buying and a cheaper price if you return a canister to be refilled.

Me too. Not sure about cost but def much less plastic

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/02/2019 16:48

@BendyDickCuminsnatch (brilliant name BTW), they don't refill the canister there and then, but you're swapping the empties rather than buying new, yes?

Well the moody woman in Robert Dyas (listed as one of the refill places) just muttered something about paying £10 less for a new canister, she just got some off the shelf rather than refilling anything and gave me a look for not getting the new canisters myself 😄 i’ll try a different place!! Thanks

actiongirl1978 · 06/02/2019 18:07

You have to take the canisters to the till in The Range, they swap your empty one for a full one.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 06/02/2019 18:20

I did that, probably just someone who didn’t know the procedure ??
Do you then pay for the swapped canister or is it free?
