Which tradesman do I need?

I have a window (uPVC) where the handle moves but doesn't move the latches to lock the window. So it's the internal mechanism that needs replacing.

I'm sure you can buy bits in screwfix but I wouldn't have a clue where to start and usually my dad is good with DIY but is also stumped with this. I'd rather just pay someone to do it! But who do I ask? A glazier?

It's a ground floor window, smallish, but still a security risk so keen to get it done.

Is it a upvc window? I'd find someone who specialises in upvc doors and windows if so.

Sorry, next job of the morning, learn to read!

We have a upvc window starting to do this, move the handle and the latches on the side of the frame don't move to slot into position in the adjoining window.

We can loosen them by moving the handle and the catches manually at the same time, seems to work for a while. Try moving all the moving parts manually at the same time to see if it helps, even temporarily.

Because this helps for us it seems to be the mechanism is sticking at the end where it slots into the frame so will try a little wd40 or other lubricant if it happens more frequently, if it gets even worse we will have to contact the housing association who own the house to sort it out and would expect them to send out a double glazing fitter to sort it.

For you, if it is an internal mechanism problem rather than a more external one like ours, I would expect a double glazing fitter would know how to sort it too.

(Ours is also a ground floor window - sitting room - where next doors cat often comes in or leaves, so she will want us to make sure it works properly for her needs to be met, using it so much for her is probably why it is getting a bit sticky.)

Thanks for the advice. I managed to find someone asking the same question on a local Facebook page where people recommended someone who does this kind of work along with general window sales/installations. Lots of great reviews. Booked for Friday.
