Slow cooker paranoia

frankie001 · 05/02/2019 22:03

I have decided to use my slow cooker while at work tomorrow and am having panic attacks that it will burn the place down. Silly I know, as it’s designed to stay in all day! Does anyone else struggle with this?

No.

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/02/2019 22:06

No it will be fine, and when you get home you will smell your lovely dinner

No but I also go out and leave things cooking on a low heat in the oven so maybe I'm too easygoing 😂

No. Just don’t forget to actually switch it on. Wink

Ok, I promise to actually turn it on and will look forward all day to coming home to sausage casserole!

Must admit it does cross my mind, I remind myself that the fridge and freezer are also on and that I don't worry about those.

We use our slow cooker a lot and I have to say this never crossed my mind!

You're fridge and freezer are also on. Probably your washing machine on times. And the dishwasher? Maybe the tumble drier? (I hope not- THAT is actually dangerous) we leave many electrical appliances on. Slow cookers are not an issue. Very low watt.

If they were an issue the fire brigade would be talking about it by now! Slow cookers have been popular for years. On mn 15 years at least.

meanwhile campaigns to stop people leaving tumble driers on unattended continue because people view it as benign (husband is a fire fighter - hence the thinly welled anger at the ignorance regarding tumble
Driers)

I use mine at least once a week and I have never thought of it as a fire hazard. .
But if it really does worried you try using it during the day when you are at home. Till you get use to it. Just don't keep checking on the contents, the more you lift the lid the longer things than to cook as I found out to my peril a few years ago.

Gingerkittykat · 06/02/2019 06:18

Does it have an auto setting? Mine was just a cheapie but this makes it go on high for a while, then to low then to warm.

Otherwise you can buy a cheap timer and put it in the plug socket so it switches off automatically.

It's fine, they're designed to be on for long periods of time.
