I’m embarrassed to admit. I was useless at school. Can anyone help me help him?

Opposite angles are equal. Angles on a straight line add to 180 degrees and angles round a point will add to 360 degrees

JessicaJoans · 05/02/2019 19:08

So double the angle given, subtract that from 360. Then half what’s left to label the other 2 opposite angles.

LemonRedwood · 05/02/2019 19:08

So in no 1, the big angle is also 122 degrees. Find the difference between 180 and 122 and both the other angles will be that number

Opposite are the same, ones next to each other in straight line = 180.

I teach literacy too, honest.

Angles on a straight line add up to 180 degrees. So, in number 1, the angles next to the one that is 122 degrees are 180-122= 58. And the last one, opposite the 122 angle, will also be 122.

Murphypoint · 05/02/2019 19:12

So the first one

Under 122 is 122 and that totals 244 which leaves 116 so 58 on the right and left. Is that right?

Purple - thank you SO much. Thanks all but the drawing makes me get it.

Thanks again.

All angles around a point add up to 360 degrees.

The opposites to the labelled angles are equal.

So taking the first question

122 + 122 = 244

360 - 244 = 116

116 is the sum of the remaining two angles.

116 ÷ 2 = 58.

The remaining two angles are each 58 degrees.

Sorry.

I take too long to type. 😳

Hi murphy,

He needs to know two things to be able to solve this:

  1. vertically opposite angles are equal and
  2. angles around a point add up to 360 degrees

Based on rule 1), the opposite angle in Q1 is also 122 degrees. The sum of those two is 244 degrees.

Using rule two, you can now see that the remaining two angles must add up to 116 degrees because all 4 angles must add up to 360 degrees (360 - 244).

These two remaining angles are also equal (opposite angles are equal) so 116/2 = 58 degrees each.

I'd work one out with him and then see if can do the rest, if he can't his teacher needs to know that to be able to help him.

Thank you though. I really do appreciate it. I can sit with him tomorrow and know what I am doing to help him.

I have spent hours cutting, laminating, and cutting again for displays LadyPenelope. I may have questioned the parentage of the person who developed it on more than one occasion.
