Desperate for a non zero hours job

career245 · 05/02/2019 18:25

Hi everyone,

I'm desperate to get off zero hours contract, that's all I ever been on since I started working. We are trying to get a mortgage but they won't allow us one due to me being on zero hours, and I'm really struggling to find something non zero hours, I'm desperate to have a career, I don't even mind what in, just something that means I can grow into the role! Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Could you do office work? Sign up to agencies if you haven’t already done so. I’m petrified at having to find a new job after being in mine for so long but have to do so in a couple of months. Thankfully my friend was in the same position and got a better paid full time job within a week so I’m hoping I have a similar experience

What type of industry do you usually work in

Heratnumber7 · 05/02/2019 18:38

And where do you live?

career245 · 05/02/2019 18:52

@MissionItsPossible office work would be fine! I have signed up to agencies as well

@NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 I have experience in retail and as a carer.

@Heratnumber7 I'm in Suffolk

Caring and retail from what I heard are “there as and when you are needed” so basically zero hours. I think office/bank is what you should be looking into IMO, good luck!

I know it's not what you are asking... But based on your experience would you be able to re train as a nurse? That would give you better prospects long term.

A lot of care homes usually give a contracted amount of hours per week, particularly supported living. You could try those if you're already working as a carer.

Try nhs hospital work as a healthcare assistant or therapy assistant- it's non zero hours, holiday pay & sick pay.

@Ylvamoon I would love to but I have young daughter!

@Ifangyow @tierraJ I will have a look

Thanks everyone for your suggestions
