Accidentally put tealight holder in dishwasher, now there’s hard wax clogging the filter!

Urgent help needed please! I accidentally put a glass tealight holder into my dishwasher and the wax from inside the glass has melted due to the heat but has now hardened and is stuck fast to the filters. Error messages galore from the dishwasher, telling me that it’s not happy and me panicking that I may have properly broken the appliance.
I’ve tried soaking the filters which can be removed in hot water and chiselling away but with not much success. I dare not think what damage may have been caused further into the dishwasher! Please can someone tell me that I’m not the only one to be so stupid. Any ideas for fixing the machine before DH finds out would be much appreciated.

Take out what you can and pour boiling water over it- let the waste water cool before pulling out the plug, so you can scoop the hardened wax up and stop it going down the drain.
If the dishwasher will run, then a very hot wash.

Maybe one of those Finish dishwasher cleaner things, think you run it empty at 90 with one in though check instructions. The lemon one makes it smell lovely too.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve tried the Finish cleaner but it hasn’t worked unfortunately. Also my dishwasher doesn’t have a very high temperature programme, I think the hottest is 40 degrees??

If you ask on property thread there's a guy on there called PigletJohn I think who seems to suggest great ideas on all kinds of emergencies.

I've never heard of a dishwasher having a max temp of 40. The lower mine goes is the "eco" setting at 50!

It must get hot, or it would not have melted the wax in the first place.

Try an iron and blotting paper/kitchen roll, or possibly a hairdryer . Paper to absorb the wax and something t9 provide dry heat.

Take out filter.
Blast hair dryer onto it, wipe with kitchen roll.
