David Harding has donated £100 million to Cambridge University.
If you had a similar sum to donate to a cause or organisation in the UK, who would receive your donation or what project would you set up?
In my city, I would fund the building of some sort of supported and subsidised housing for women and children who are finding it difficult to leave their partners for whatever reason; a kind of village style gated community with some shared facilities, creche, counselling and coaching, as well as regular free surgeries for legal and financial support.
How about you?

Who has £100 million to spare?!

I would give grants to various organisations to help and support them.

Main ones would include homeless charities, teenage/youth mental health, cancer, reduce knife crime and gang warfare, anti-raci#m charities etc.

I would also give several grants to help organisations around me, plus those that I may have been involved in. Eg local football clubs dc went to etc

David Harding for one Confused. Bill Gates also donated £100 million.

Some would go to the promotion of liberal thinking
And the rest I would put toward full scholarships (including uniforms etc) for able children from disadvantaged backgrounds (both in Britain and abroad) to go to top schools in order to break transgeberational poverty cycles.

If Harding had wanted to help less well-off people in Cambridgeshire he should have pumped that money into the bus services!

Does he say that's what he wanted?

£100 is pretty small change in terms of eye-catching university giving in US. Michael Bloomberg recently gave $1.8 billion to his alma mater, and both Harvard and Stamford have had single donations of $400 million and $500 million.

^ badly edited!

university giving. In the U.S. ....

I'd start by reopening the public toilets in my two closest town centres, and reinstate the local bus service to half hourly. Now you can't go into town if you have continence issues, 'cause you can't get home quickly either....

Homelessness and mental health are two areas I think we really need to work on.

I'd buy houses all across the UK and get them kitted out not only with furniture, but also with things like dog cages, cat beds, hutches and the like. Also fully stock with everything needed to take care of said animals.

Then, I'd hand them over to Women's Aid and homeless charities, to be used as short-term shelters for people leaving DV or are otherwise homeless with pets. So that people don't have to make a choice about leaving a pet with an abuser, or living on the street as they can't take their pet into a shelter.

ScreamingValenta · 05/02/2019 17:35

I'd spread it out amongst different animal charities, and also some of those charities that organise special experiences for terminally ill children and their families.
