Vomit has stained my carpet - how do you get rid of it?

Having a wee panic as I've just noticed the carpet is slightly "bleached" by Dds puke and we have an inspection (renting) next week.

I have cleaned it twice and the smell has finally gone but although it looked clean there is a perfect outline of where it landed...it's sort of white looking.

Is there anything you'd recommend to get rid of it?

Vanish foam carpet cleaner is pretty good, you could try bicarbonate of soda on a dry stain

Thanks. I did initially but although the vomit disappeared a pale silhouette now that it's dry. It's a white stain as though the stomach acid has bleached the carpet.

It's not something I've come across before when sorting this sort of thing out.

Are you sure it's not because that bit of the carpet is now cleaner than the rest? I think if it were me I would shampoo the entire carpet and see if it matched up then.

It is a very old carpet. It's pilling and flat and a general nightmare to maintain.

Have to pop out now but will come back to the thread.

Yes might be as it's cleaner. Trouble is you can't do the whole lot the same. Could you put furniture or rug over it, or a large pot plant if you have one?

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2019 12:13

Rug doctor is brilliant (diffifult if it's bleached I appreciate). If you're near me you can borrow mine :)

SkunkButtRug · 05/02/2019 13:39

I be asked my ads to lug her van carpet cleaner round - hopefully it won't make it worse! Stealth thanks. That's so kind. I might artfully arrange some toys over it to buy me some time until I can figure it

Oh god, that garbled nonsense was meant to say, I've got my sister to lug round her carpet Vax thing...Blush

That was so funny that garbled nonsense 😂. Let us know how it all went.

StealthPolarBear · 05/02/2019 17:14

Have you been sniffing the rug doctor again?

RamblinRosie · 06/02/2019 01:04

How old is the carpet? Are you likely to be there much longer?

You have no liability until you move out. Your landlord cannot claim for “betterment “, so if the carpet would be assumed to have a 10 year lifespan and it’s been down for 10 years when you leave, no liability to you.

SkunkButtRug · 09/02/2019 11:13

The carpet is probably getting on for 10 years. In some places it looks a bit threadbare. Vax is ok but there's still some bits. Ugh. If this was my house the carpet would get a Viking funeral. I hate it.

The smell is lovely though...all lavender and summer breezes....
