Regarding cats

We have recently realised our DS is allergic to cats, we have 2 cats!
Cat rescues are unwilling to help us but DS is getting worse by the day with them around. WWYD??

Have you tried to antihistamines?

I'm allergic to our cat and take ah as well as keep cat out of my bedroom and be meticulous about damp dusting and hoovering.

There's also a spray you can get for them to reduce the dander I think bit I haven't tried that.

Or you can find them a home yourself privately?

If his health is suffering I would rehome, what charities or rescue centres are near you. don't put them on gumtree or sale sites. Could the vet rehome them. If he is really suffering then can friend or family take them now, ask vets and your own doctor how to clean the house and if he needs any treatment.

You have to put your son first.

A friend's dh got prescription anti histamines for 3 months. He is fine with the dcats now.

Try Cats protection, they do an adopt from home service if suitable.

babybabybaby1 · 04/02/2019 21:41

Oh no I didn't make myself clear, I know we have to rehome them for the sake of our son. The problem is finding them homes. No family/friends are able/willing and have even tried ourselves to find them homes but it seems nobody wants cats. All the local and further afield rescues have put us on a waiting list which they say is literally years long. DS is too young for antihistamines

My ds has been having Piriton from a few months old on Dr advice. He is allergic to grass!!

Vinorosso74 · 04/02/2019 21:44

Rescue centres may have a waiting list of cats to come in so might not be able to help immediately. I would contact them all again. There is a website called Catchat which lists all rescues in your area-there may be some smaller ones you haven't heard of. Sadly a lot of people use allergies as an excuse to get rid of their pets rather than just being honest hence suggesting you contact them again so they know you definitely do need to rehome. I agree do not advertise them on Gumtree/Facebook etc.
There's something called Petalcleanse (I think) which can reduce the allergens. I would also get advice from pharmacy about antihistamines etc in the interim.

Where in the country are you.

YeOldeTrout · 04/02/2019 21:46

Where are you, OP? If you give a postcode area (first half) maybe some MNers can think of ideas.

Vinorosso74 · 04/02/2019 21:48

Cross post there. Roughly whereabouts are you if anyone may be able to make suggestions. I volunteer for CP and rehoming is going well at the centre I'm at but realise this is not the case everywhere but that seems a very long wait!

babybabybaby1 · 04/02/2019 22:07

I can absolutely understand that people will use allergies as an excuse to get rid of unwanted pets but how do I prove I really need their help? Perhaps a doctors note? DS is 7 weeks old

Has a doctor gave a diagnosis of allergy? What makes you think he's allergic?
