Day and Night Nurse. Is it as good as they say?

DH has been struggling with a cold on and off since before Christmas. But last night he came home and was freezing cold, physically shivering despite being in a warm house with layers of clothes and a blanket over him on the sofa.

He’s dragged himself into work today but just rang to ask if I could get him some cold and flu stuff. I’ve never tried NN or DN but I’m thinking of trying, particularly if it will knock him out tonight and give him a really good rest.

Does it live up to the hype?

Night nurse doesn't make me like a zombie in the morning but does seem to give a better sleep. Phenergan would be bought from a pharmacist.

I don't know how Night Nurse is even legal? It's seriously strong stuff, and I only take it if I know I don't have to get up early and drive anywhere! I don't feel human until about lunchtime the following day after Ive taken it!

I really like the taste of the gloopy green night nurse

It really doesn't affect me like that

I use the liquid night nurse, it really helps me sleep and breathe more easily - if I don't take it (when I have a bad cold, this is) then I keep waking up and can't breathe and have to sit up / get up until I can breathe again then try to go back to sleep... I don't have any trouble getting up in the morning well, no more than usual . Be careful not to overdose.

Night nurse Capsules, though - can't tolerate them. Cannot wake up in the morning. Totally zombified. Once had it really bad when I felt (dreamed?) like I was under the surface of water and if I could only get up to the surface then I would be able to wake up but I just couldn't break the surface.

I also use own-brand Day Nurse (compare the ingredients, as cold and flu remedies vary considerably but there are some which have the same active ingredients / strength for half the price.)

Liquid Night Nurse is fantastic stuff for finally getting a bit of sleep when you've got an absolutely awful streaming cold.

@mycatplotsdeath

Over the counter in most pharmacies. It's for motion sickness, helps you sleep and not be sick on long journeys. But it is exactly the same ingredient.
You can get it prescribed from the G.P. for mild anxiety and /or sleep issues also.
It comes in 10mg or 25mg tablets.
There is 20mg in a full adult dose of NN

I can't take Night Nurse. I feel like I'm forgetting to breathe after I've taken it - keep taking strange deep breaths. Plus I feel like I'm wading through mud the next day - physically and mentally.

Dh takes it with no ill effects.

I took NN for the first time recently when I’d got a really bad cold and hadn’t slept for a couple of nights, woke up after the best nights sleep and cold symptoms were much better. I’ve recently been surrounded by ill children and have been have a small sip of NN to help me sleep but I’m also thinking that it’s maybe kept their lurgy away from me. Definitely wouldn’t take a full dose if I need to function the next day, the tiniest sip works wonders.....

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 05/02/2019 21:18

Agree, I like the capsules but even half a dose (ie 1 capsule) helps. Full dose and I don't expect to be fully functioning mentally until after lunchtime next day.
