Male relative, we're very close (about the same age, he and his DW are our DCs' godparents)
I would rather get something consumable, an experience, or something crafty/home made/recycled. Really, they have everything they need.
They don't live that close to us and last time they came to stay our DS (who has SEN) didn't cope that well so we can't really offer to host/do anything together.
He'd probably really like something foodie but I always get them something foodie for Christmas.

Only a small present but i went on ebay and got my friend a keyring with a sixpence from the year they were born

What about an experience like a cookery class (jamie oliver ones are good). Or maybe a fun experience like a room escape or lasertag type thing?

Depends if they’re a you g 50?

Yes, quite a young 50, but I don't know if his friends would be the type for a group outing IYSWIM.
I love the idea of a coin from his birth year!

Ah he's too young for pre-decimal coins it seems! But some nice old 50p souvenirs.

Do they like gin? Craft gin club do subscriptions and often get special offers including Quidco cash back.

Ok I've found a very nice first day cover that has family relevance.
So I can maybe do that with food/wine?
Unless anyone has any really good ideas...

You can get bottles of whiskey with a personalised message on them, or whiskey tumblers engraved with a message, if he drinks whiskey.

drspouse · 03/02/2019 22:31

I'm not completely sure what he likes apart from wine as we do always share a bottle or two! Quick text to his DW is in order I think.

Why not find a local distillery where he can blend his own gin?

drspouse · 04/02/2019 10:31

Right after a quick convo with his DW none of the drink suggestions are likely to be suitable (good thing I asked).
But I am looking around for another subscription type thing so he has something that lasts more than just a few days.

If he’s a young 50, what about something like this: thenumbersuk.com/collections/adults/products/number-50-grey-sweatshirt

Or a subscription to a quality magazine like this:
monocle.com/magazine/

I’ve just been doing a lot of searching for 50th gifts myself!

Right I think I've found a local brewery that do vouchers for tours - DW says beer is much more his style.
