Crackling socket

DS has splashed son water all over a plug socket (accidentally) and now it’s making a crackling sound that’s getting louder. What am I supposed to do in this situation? Google says to turn of power and take apart the socket but there is no way in hell I am doing that.

Have you turned off the power? At the electricity box? Thats urgent, go do it now.

Turn off the power and call an electrician. Power off immediately!

After you have turned off the power, if you dont want to deal with it then call an electrician.

Turn off the circuit breaker which includes that socket and then call an electrician.

Power is off (switched off main circuit) but can’t get a electrician until tomorrow which is a bit of an issue because I need to the use the internet for a metrics test thing tonight.

Turn off the power at the box then isolate the ring that the socket is on by taking that rings fuse out of the box. test it by checking another appliance which is on that ring. Unscrew the socket and then you should be able to dry it out ..

Once you have taken the fuse out of the affected ring you can turn the power back on and then you could use a hairdryer on an extension lead from another socket on one of the other rings to dry out the wet socket..

However if you are not sure what you are doing then call and electrician ...

@laska2meryls whoosh is the sound of that going over my head but I am well impressed. Don’t have a hair dryer or extension cord and (on first inspection of antieny fuse box) it seems that the entire floor is on one circuit so I doubt I’d be able to manage alone anyway.

Is your home all on one floor racecardriver? if not, if you take the fuse out for the floor that the socket is on (make sure you turn the fuse box off at the switch beforehand ) then you will be able to turn electricity back on and so still have power on the other floor.. then get the electician to deal with it tomorrow

take the fuse out of the switched off box either by just switching the small switch off for the affected circuit on the fuse if it looks like the first box , or by justpulling out the fuse block if doesnt have a small switch (however if you have a box with no small switches on you really should get it changed anyway as it will be very old and probably not fit for purpose )

@laska2meryls thanks for the pic. Bit different from ours. I’m not sure how to remove fuses. Our ll is great so I’m sure they’ll change the lot if necessary. Will just have to wait to see what the electrician says.
