What do your teen DC’s do on their Birthday?

DS is 13 today and I feel we should be doing something!

His presents were technology, clothes and sports tickets so nothing to ‘play’ with.

We’re having a day out of his choosing in half term and meeting extending family for dinner later.

His rugby game was cancelled this morning, so I did a big cooked breakfast, he’s played online with friends for a bit and wants to watch the football this afternoon.

He doesn’t want to do anything in particular but I feel like we ought to do something. What do your teen DC’s do on their actual birthday?

Whatever he fancies if it's not a school day. Usually there is a cake and candles bit, sometimes with passing friends or family.

Yours sounds like a very nice teen birthday.

Thank you. That makes me feel better. I’ve made his favourite chocolate cake which we’ll share with family later. It just feels a bit like a normal day!

Well birthdays are often normal days, aren't they? With hopefully a few treats and general getting-to-pick-dinner bonuses thrown in.

I think most teenagers view the prospect of a day loafing around the house with no chores or homework and plenty of wifi their idea of pure heaven.

My dc was 17 yesterday.
Had firm instructions for a Chinese takeaway, cherry coke and a vanilla traybake with dolly mixtures on. Grin
The day was to be spent in a onesie whilst binging on Netflix cuddling the dog.

This will be the first year he hasn’t had a party of some description so I think I’m feeling a bit lost. He seems more than happy though. Was at a friends party last weekend and another friends next weekend so I think he’s appreciating a weekend off.

Did he choose not to have a party?
At 13/14 mine did things like laser quest or paintballing or out for pizza with friends. DS had friends round for a meal (proper dinner party Grin).

Yes, it was his choice not to have a party. I’ve been asking since well before Christmas but he was adamant he didn’t want to this year.

He had an indoor surfing party last year. Parties for his group of friends seem to be go karting, football, football zorbing, inflatables on the local lake etc...
