Out of hours or wait for GP?

DD 4 is asthmatic. She's had bad asthma symptoms over the last few days which we are now starting to get under control.

Saw GP Thursday chest was clear just wheezy.

Since yesterday her cough sounds a lot more 'wet' and she's had intermittent fever so I'm concerned she could have a chest infection.

Would you try and see out of hours GP today or wait for practice to open tomorrow?

I don't want her having antibiotics unnecessarily and sometimes think out of hours prescribe them even if not really needed but obviously I want her better not least as she's missing school!

I have asthma and I would get her seen today. The quicker you get her on some antibiotics the better otherwise her asthma could be really bad again.

OOH’s definitely. It’s not worth risking it when asthma is involved.

My DD is exactly the same, I could have written this post! I find whatever I do is wrong.

-Take her and OOH GP will say she's fine and look at me like I'm a crazy, neurotic mother.

-Don't take her and she will go down hill and GP will ask why I didn't bring her in sooner.

Mine seems a lot better this morning, so have decided to wait it out. Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

OOH. My 15yr old has had asthma since he was tiny. I get wrong all the time for not taking him the the OOH go but waiting for the GP who knows his condition.
He has cough variant asthma and never wheezes. Every OOH gp I've been to has just said "chest is clear come back if you need too".

Def get her seen ASAP. I was unsure whether to get my girl seen at out of hours, she was wheezy and had a cold had bn a bit sick n out of sorts but it was the wheeze I was concerned about.

They sent us to hospital in an ambulance, her oxygen levels were low her heart racing and she had to have steroids a nebuliser 3 times.

Don't take any chances, get her seen better safe than sorry.

My dd has asthma and we've been to OOH doctors more times than I can count.
With your dd's symptoms I would be taking her to OOH.
I know what BlueBuilding means though about making the right call. It can go from a 'wait and see' situation to a 'needs medical attention' now situation so fast with asthma.

Thanks all.

Think I'll see if I can get OOH appointment. Just feel like I always choose the wrong thing - you are either seen as neurotic mother or that you didn't bring then soon enough!

Starburst DD also has cough variant which often means I find OOH hopeless. A&E decided against nebuliser recently despite SATs of 90 as no wheeze!

I would 100% get her seen today, no harm in making sure shes okay after all kids do usually cover up how bad they really are feeling!

My 4yo has asthma and everytime at this time of year he starts off with the cough and i just know whats about to happen, he usually ends up in an ambulance and stay at hospital. Thankfully we have it under control now, but its not worth taking chances with asthma! 😊
