Cold and flu pills

I’m a bit late to the party on how affective cold and flu pills can be (or maybe even just normal paracetamol, not sure if the extras are the key or what)

However (and this may be a really stupid question) am I prolonging the cold by not letting it get out of my system? Do colds just have a fixed time or does the runny nose and cough somehow remove it and if I stop that it will take longer to go?

Sorry if I’m an idiot but it’s 4.30 and my mind is wandering!

Paracetamol and ibuprofen are pain killers so take away the pain and can make you feel better. Just getting a better nights sleep can help,to cure the cold.

Not sure if it does anything to fix the cold, per se.

I swear by them. Taken regularly for the first few days of a cd, they can really make a difference to your symptoms. I also drink between 2-3 litres of water a day when I have a cold to really help flush it out.

I just take paracetamol and Sudafed, the old fashioned red Sudafed tablet plus Vicks applied liberally whenever I am at home.

A lot of the cold and flu tablets and ‘max’ versions of cold remedies have Phenylephrine Hydrochloride as an active ingredient which makes me vomit, severely 🤮.

The tablets are helping with the symptoms but they're not affecting the underlying cause so don't worry, you're not "saving up" the cold for later. The meds will make you feel better but behind that your body is still working on fighting the virus.

Thanks all, I’ll carry on with them then!
