Where can I get nice plates, bowls?

I need to replace the ancient chipped mishmash of plates we have, also the weird giant cup bowls we got for xmas a few years ago thanks ILs, no ugly giant cups are not my style, I'm insulted you think they might be

I like scandi type geometric or quirky nature prints. Probably white background with colour in the print. I'm not sure how to describe. Not keen on fancy brands like royal doulton, I normally prefer something a bit funkier. Quick look on john lewis online and not seen much that grabs me.

Is there an amazing homeware website I need to know about? I'd have hoped Ikea might have something but it's all very plain and muted, very disappointing

I probably don't want things that match so separate plate and bowl ideas appreciated

Watching with interest! I’m doing the same as you, OP. This time I’m going for a mixture of beautiful things...matching is not for me!

itswonkylampshade · 01/02/2019 22:51

I have a few bits from Anthropologie which are beautiful but not cheap.

justtakingabath · 01/02/2019 22:52

habitat have lovely ones.

Our posh dinner service is from Debenhams. I find supermarkets are very good for homewares, especially Sainsburys. Dunelms is pretty good as well, and if you have a Boundary Mills near you the choice is overwhelming.

Gran22 · 01/02/2019 22:56

Lonicera I was going to suggest Sainsburys. I think their table wear is the nicest of all the supermarkets, some Scandi looking stuff around lately too.

Any of these what you’re looking for? All on amazon. I just searched ‘dinner set’. We got a nice set of there just before Christmas because everywhere I looked it was plain, muted shades as you said!

*off there!

Longdistance · 01/02/2019 22:59

I was going to say invest in some Denby crockery. It’s tough stuff. My mil has some from the 70’s and none of it chipped or broken. So we decided to get a set, and add serving bowls etc to the set. Not sure what other patterns there are.

If not try maisone du monde. They have a website and are quite trendy but a French company.

FunkyCrunky · 01/02/2019 23:01

I like Sainsbury's table wear too. I've got way too many odd mish mash plates, cups, bowls, but then I do food photography or a food blog, so need a variety of different plates, etc.

Hermano · 01/02/2019 23:09

A lovely load of places to try, thanks!

I looked on heals and all pretty bla. I try to avoid amazon cos tax avoiding bastards, but my principles disappear when I want something I can't find anywhere else.
I like your left and right pics mnahmnah, very nice

John Lewis.

Those woodland animals are lovely. MN please don't buy them and make them out of stock before u can persuade DH!

So we need about 15 plates probably, enough for toast for us 4 plus guests with a few leftover in case anyone needs a bun before we've washed up.

If you were buying cute woodland animal plates would you get 4? 8? Use them together always? Mix and match with old chipped white Ikea leftovers? How do you work it? I don't understand!

Sainsbury's...brilliant stuff...also try matalan

GoofyIsACow · 01/02/2019 23:26

Look at Nadiya Hussein’s crockery, i’m lusting after it currently!

Witchesandwizards · 01/02/2019 23:28

After Christmas we got rid of most of our mismatched (but not in a cool way) crockery and got 8 of everything from Sainsbury’s white porcelain collection. Very happy and food looks better.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 01/02/2019 23:40

I'd get 8 plus the extra rabbit one that is seperate.
And the matching mugs.

WinterBerry7 · 01/02/2019 23:43

Tesco...I got a lovely set from their Fox and Ivy range. Very Denby like but without the price tag! Seems pretty sturdy so far too.

Davros · 01/02/2019 23:57

I like Port Meirion although it's not everyone's taste. You can mix and match because it's all a variation on a theme

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/02/2019 23:59

Anthropologie. My crockery cost nearly as much as my (cheap) car, but it’s beautiful and I love it

justabigdisco · 02/02/2019 00:04

I wanted to start this thread! Everything is either cheapo crappy stuff or £10 for one bowl. Nothing in between!

WolvesWendy · 02/02/2019 00:16

Do you have a Boundary Mill store nearby? They sell seconds from hotel and restaurant ranges for £1 or less for a dinner plate, often British made too.
