Ds has a severely shattered elbow. Surgery, metal wires, a massive cast. It’s fine for him to be topless at home but when I take him back for check ups this week I need to put something on him- but what?! He has a collar and cuff sling as well. God knows how I’ll evrntually dress him for school as well!

Cardigans or tops with a zip over a vest? Leave one arm over the shoulder rather than putting his arm in it?

My mum recently broke her shoulder and this was the only way she could get dressed.

Zip fleece on one arm only?

A gilet might be good for warmth.

My borrower had this ( jumped over tennis net to swap sides, caught foot, fell on elbow, surgery etc) he was 16. I don’t remember him being topless tho so not so much I can advise - short sleeved T-shirt? Short sleeved button down shirt? I would hope school would accommodate anything so long as you try and keep to plain/ conservative colours/no logos. I remember my brother being very cheesed off he had to ask for help to put socks on and zip/ unzip fly - maybe joggers when he goes back to school for a bit?

*brother not borrower Hmm

A cape?
Unpick or cut one side of a T shirt, he can put it over his head and the good arm through then use sticky tape to fasten the other side. Put a blanker round him until you are inside the hospital.

Thistles24 · 01/02/2019 14:03

Zip up tops are the way forward!

greenelephantscarf · 01/02/2019 14:05

button up shirts
cardigans
fleece jackets
basically anything that fully opens up one side

Strugglingtodomybest · 01/02/2019 14:07

When DS2 broke and dislocated his elbow last year we just put him in large t-shirts and a zip up hoody.

CMOTDibbler · 01/02/2019 14:18

When I had massive casts on and an external fixator before that, I wore vest tops with a short sleeved boyfriend style cardigan over.
I'd go for a polo shirt thats a couple of sizes two big and maybe an over sized hoody that zips up

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 01/02/2019 15:15

Pick the stitching out of one arm of a t shirt and then once it's on just use safety pins or the clips off an ironing board cover to fasten it. Or stitch a zip on if you're handy.

Couchpotato3 · 01/02/2019 15:20

Just use some larger sized (adult?) T shirts etc that can easily fit over the whole caboodle and leave his other arm free. He won't be wanting to move it or use the arm much at least for the first few weeks, so having it cocooned inside several layers of clothing will probably be the most comfortable solution for him anyway.
Topless in this weather? Your house must be toasty-warm!

Poor thing! DS broke his shoulder last summer and at the start he wore his dads t shirts - put his good arm into the sleeve and not his bad side. Just put t shirt right out over the bad side with that sleeve empty.
