Hi I'm going to Tenerife in 2 weeks and wondered if I can take my soluble paracetamol in my suitcase. As might need need pain relief as my ankle is still healing after surgery 10 weeks ago and is still quite stiff that I'm still using my crutches to walk. Any advice would be great

Ha! Yes of course.

LeonoraFlorence · 01/02/2019 10:29

Of course you can. If you run out it’s very easy to access a pharmacy over there too.

BigRedBoat · 01/02/2019 10:55

I'm sure you could take it in your handbag if you want, it's only paracetamol.

Of course you can, but to be honest you will get pain meds over there and much cheaper than here (Ireland anyway) I normally bring loads of them home with me. Stock up over the course of the holiday!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/02/2019 13:15

I'm sure people are right, but I'd check with the Authorities, personally.

You don't want to take any chances. Look at Laura Plummer.
Her defence was she didn't know.
They didn't buy it though.

Racheallouise · 01/02/2019 13:25

I have enough paracetamol as was prescribed them by the hospital so don't really need to buy any as i have loads left , is there a limit to how many I can take with me.

We always stock up on paracetamol and ibuprofen when we are in the UK and never had a problem bringing it back (to mainland Europe) in our hand luggage.

dementedpixie · 01/02/2019 14:18

We always take paracetamol and ibuprofen on holiday - it's part of the holiday first aid kit

punishmepunisher · 01/02/2019 14:21

As long as you're not taking 300 tramadol you'll be fine.

Weetabixandshreddies · 01/02/2019 14:22

Are you sure it's paracetamol? I thought drs weren't prescribing it any more?

I would just double check that it isn't co codamol (probably won't make a difference but I would be more careful taking codeine abroad than just paracetamol)

dementedpixie · 01/02/2019 14:24

Is it solpadol?

Nesssie · 01/02/2019 14:24

Awwlookatmybabyspider They didn't buy it though. Because she knew exactly what she was doing and deserved all 3 years of her prison sentence.

Paracetamol is fine op. Large quantities of illegally obtained prescription drugs banned in the destination country is not.

MrsJayy · 01/02/2019 14:25

As long as they are in a marked bottle and it isn't as a pp said 300 it is fine i had paracetamol in my handbag last flight i was on security didn't bat an eye

MrsJayy · 01/02/2019 14:28

300 tramadol I meant to say. Sometimes you can get prescribed paracetamol as part of ongoing pain treatment

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/02/2019 14:31

You will be fine taking a sensible amount of medication that is prescibed to you to Tenerife.

Painkillers in Spain tend to only be available from pharmacies, but often in stronger concentrations than the UK. Won't necessarily be cheaper though as paracetamol costs pennies in UK supermarkets.

But if you're caught short the best thing to do would be to go and talk to a pharmacist, who will probably be able to sell you strong paracetamol over the counter. If you're in a tourist area, it's likely that they will speak English, but also worth checking opening times as they often close at 2 pm on Saturday until Monday morning.
