So don't know if this should be posted here but here we go.
Friend have been diagnosed with pcos (Polycystic ovary syndrome). She's not bothered about having kids at all so she wants to look into a hyterestemy.
Anybody been through something like this? Best treatment that worked for you?

I have PCOS and my understanding was that hysterectomies aren't a good treatment for it. Although I'm sure your friend is making informed decisions under the guidance of her doctor.

Treatment is really specific to the individual, but mine is mostly manageable through diet and exercise. That's not the case for many women though. I was previously on the pill which managed my PCOS symptoms, but I reacted to it badly.

Hysterectomy would be a very extreme response, hormones might be a lot less so. There would be significant downsides to hysterectomy, but without it being your friend on here its would be impossible to know what's driving her thoughts around this extreme action.

Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) wouldn’t help. It’s an endocrine problem. The uterus makes no hormones.

Possibly removal of the ovaries but then she would go into menopause instantly without the buildup which doesn’t sound like fun. But this can be done on its own so you don’t need to take the uterus too and no periods without ovaries if that’s the problem.

A hysterectomy is major surgery (there are several approaches) and I wouldn’t go through that just to treat my pcos.

How old is she, she'd need to have really bad PCOS to consider a hysterectomy as it would only help if they remove the ovaries. This has other serious health implications going into early menapourse she'd need to take HRT and then the high risk of osteoporosis.

I'd be looking at all other options first, but then maybe she has already.

She was wanting it all removed even before she was diagnosed and now she just wants it all gone? She has a cyst the size of a grapefruit that isn't bothering her just now but if it bursts it'll be hell. I think she just wants the fastest way of dealing with it so to say rather than trying loads of different things. She never wants kids so no problems there. Just thinking she may have to go on hormone replacement therapy.
Her docs are useless completely they didn't even tell her what the complications of having Polycystic ovary syndrome just said yeah you have it off you pop

The symptoms can be managed most docs are rubbish in it and don't care.

She needs to research it really then make descion..

I'll let her know thanks 😊 it's been months since she was diagnosed and I seen a post on Facebook of all places and I'm like is this what you have and she does but docs never told her symptoms. She's been thinking that shes going crazy with anxiety and depression.
