How bad is blood sugar level 65? Is that very high?

Just had a call about blood results, the receptionist who called said she'd been asked to call because the sugar is too high, she's not clinically trained but she said the number is 65. Earliest appointment available is mid-February so I won't get any more information until then.

Is 65 worryingly high?

Nurse here. 65 is surely your hba1c which is your last 3 mins 'average' reading. It is higher than desired but not cause for panic if you have an appointment next month.

I doubt it was a blood sugar monitor reading. Was it the HbA1c to check your average over a period of weeks or months. I looked at www.diabetes.co.uk for information. HbA1c shows how your body is reacting to glucose. I had gestational diabetes and it was controlled by diet only instead of insulin. Will you get a chance to make changes to diet and exercise and re-test in a while?

I had gestational diabetes as well, had to inject insulin and it took ages to settle afterwards, the diabetic nurse then called me a "future diabetic" so the T2 didn't come as a massive surprise. I am careful with diet etc. Glad to hear it's not a dangerous level, I was a bit worried there! Thanks MNers Flowers

65mmol/mol is your HbA1c (10 week blood glucose level) the UK guidelines are 53mmol/mol or less for good control so yes it is higher than you would want but not an issue until you see your doctor or nurse in a few weeks
