Can a door lock suddenly break?

Bit odd. Tried to open the front door this morning. Turn the lock but the mechanism is not engaging and turning (can see the bolt doesn’t move). Has anybody had this happen? I guess it can because things break down but never heard of it before.

Oh yes. I've lived in this house 25 years and had two lock changes for that reason. The mechanism just wore out I guess.

Having said that, could you try some WD40 in case it's just very stiff?

Ta Worra! Might also be the cold around -20/-30 C. Ah. Locksmith I guess maybe book it in for a warmer day though as it is Baltic here

-20/-30 C Shock Shock

Where do you live? In a walk-in freezer? Grin

Could you try squirting a bit of anti-freeze in there?

Nah, chance would be a fine thing... walk ins tend not to have gusting wind! I be in furrin’ parts. Had another listen to it as I turned the lock. Too smooth and can’t feel any resistance.

Yes they can suddenly break. But try WD40 first.
