Trigger warning...advice from frontline professionals

Hi, if you are a frontline professional how do you get over the second hand trauma you have witnessed?

  1. By concentrating on the good you have done by being there?
  2. Supervision?
  3. Do you have team debriefing to talk it through?
  4. Not think about it/ bury it?
  5. Pray/give it over to God?

Asking for myself. Many thanks

I go for the talk it through and try and think about the good you've done approach. Debriefing really helps. It's never easy

Supervision and debriefing. Trying not to think about it never works.

Thank you

Good and effective supervision and the ability to explore your feelings in a safe way.
If really needed, employee assistance for counselling.
Reflection to help you rationalise and identify what you are feeling and why
Build your emotional resilience so that you are more able to deal with the trauma of others.
It is always hard but it does get easier to process.

Significant event analysis as part of a team really helps me. Talking through situation and realising my colleagues feel the same or struggle with the same issues. As prior to becoming involved in this i felt they all coped better But in reality no one of us talked about how we felt.

These are really helpful - thank you. I am going to seek some sort of supervision for myself to externally process situations.
