Can I leave my slow cooker on overnight?

I prepped lots of veg/barley etc for a slow cooker soup and figured it would need 4 hours. Was an hour late turning it on (urgent callaway), and now I'm nodding off! Can I just turn it down to low and leave on overnight?

Pacific great! I will do just that. I'll probably be up for the loo in the night but then don't fancy tubbing it up then so on it will stay.

You might find it isn't very nice if it is cooked for ages.

Do you have a plug in timer you could use so it goes off at the right time?

Yup I leave mine on all night all the time. Only problem is the smell usually wakes me up with my tummy rumbling.

We leave ours on overnight a lot, especially if we are making stock, or ‘bone broth’ as the young people now call it :)

Oooh good point re smell. 9ur bedroom is right next to the kitchen too.

Of course, isn't that exactly how they're meant to be used?

I always put mine on about 6am, cook low 6-8hrs while I'm at work then it stays on the keep warm function until I get in and want to eat. Overnight is the same surely?

Yup - I find chicken stock is much nicer if it’s on overnight on low, as long as I’ve put enough water in. Only problem is having the time to sort it out in the morning.

Porridge cooked on low overnight is supposed to result in a lovely, soft creamy breakfast , according to my DM

I've had to turn it off as the barley/pulses are soaked to capacity and there's no room for any more liquid.

Do I now have to refrigerate it or can I just leave it with the lid on?
