Travel insurance

I have posted here rather than travel as it's more likely to get responses.

I'm in the process of buying travel insurance for our upcoming holiday abroad. What is actually classed as a pre-existing medical condition? I'm answering the questions honestly as there is no point having insurance if you don't but it seems barmy.... My DP was extremely unwell a few years ago with an illness that he shouldn't have survived and miraculously without any lasting side effects. He was treated as an in patient but has had no further medical care/ checkups related to this illness. It won't return unless he is extremely unlucky. Should I be paying extra insurance for a condition that is no longer (5 years +) present and had/has no effect on his health once recovered?

If it is unlikely to reoccur it probably won’t increase the premium much but if you don’t tell them and something does happen then your insurance won’t cover you.

It increases the premium hugely! They seem to be scared of the word even though it is statistically highly unlikely to return (one off illness). I have always been honest and will always pay it but seems ridiculous.

Hi we went with holiday extras with a similar situation. They say within 2 years not 5. You have to ring them and declare though it isn't available online
