By god, it's grim out there!

We've got paint, we've got glue... we've even got [shudder] GLITTER!

But, give me a new way to make it all fun?!

(Or, anything that doesn't involve glitter!)

Junk modelling
Finger print pictures
Watered down paint and a straw. Blow bubbles and make a bubble print picture
Yoghurt pot telephones. Decorate the pots
Flour and water paper mache
Make picture and walk to the post office to post it to Grannie? If you can face the weather!

Five-minute mum on Instagram is good for ideas.

I like string and clothes peg and anything that will do as clothes to peg up.

Also 'washing up'

My DD loved a pile of magazines and a pair of scissors. Cut out loads of pictures and then spend ages sticking them on a piece of paper. Old cards work well too if you have your old Christmas cards.

Yes to finger painting.

Printing - potatoes or any other old bits of junk you've got is good - needs thick paint though. An old toy car with the wheels dipped in paint and then rolled across paper makes good patterns too.

Musical shakers - an empty plastic bottle - with a little rice, pasta, lentils etc inside. Glue the lid on and then decorate the outside with stickers. Shake along to favourite songs.

Baking and decorating biscuits

Play doh
Kinetic sand
Finger painting
Cutting and sticking with tissue paper
Stickers
Get a pack of paper plates and let them stick/cut/colour to make faces or make anything

Not crafts but my 3 year old likes baking on wet days

But most days I have to put on her waterproofs and go out anyway or she goes crazy! Waterproofs are brilliant for that age group!

Cornflour mixed with water is great for playing with. My kids informed me this is called ooplak now.

spritesandunicorns · 29/01/2019 08:58

Sorry just read what you’ve actually got. That probably wasn’t helpful at all!

imcrackersme · 29/01/2019 08:59

Giving dolly a bath using a large Tupperware box as a bath.

newyeardontcare · 29/01/2019 09:00

It's ok. We've got loads of other stuff as well :-)

Dd is busy emptying out a cupboard (omg the mess - but what fun?!)

Big roll of paper spread out on table and lightly taped down and let her finger paint. Keep wipes or a wet cloth handy or paint in the bath/shower

Homemade play dough is lovely to make and you can add food coloring and nice smells with almond/mint/vanilla essence. Hide dinos or pebbles in the middle of balls of play dough if your dc don’t eat that sort of thing.

If your dc don’t put things in their mouth, a box of rice and a handful of small figures/dinosaurs/animals is good for half an hour of sensory play.

A really soapy frothy sponge (but not sipping wet) can be used to make designs on a wipe clean surface (oilcloth/ high chair tray/ window).

Found cornstarch and food colouring... what exactly do you do with it?

Two chairs and a long handled brush or mop and a blanket. Make a tent, that is their house and let them take toys in it etc. That always used to kill a good half an hour - sometimes more.

How about a cushion mountain? I used to let mine take all the cushions of the sofas and build a mountain that they could jump on. That worked quite well when they needed to let off a bit of steam.

The pick up trail. Get some playing cards you don't really care about and lay them out in a trail around the house. DC has to pick up the cards and they find a 'surprise' at the end of it. One of their toys hiding behind a curtain for example.

Magazines, scissors and sellotape always used to kill quite a lot of time too. They particularly loved going nuts with the sellotape!!!

Very long baths with loads of tupperware containers. Mine could fill a whole hour that way!!!!! I used to be able to sit on the bathroom floor with a book - it was my favourite way of wet day entertainment!

shecamefromgreece · 29/01/2019 09:51

Make a den
Bake biscuits
Then have a tea party.

My youngest is a bit older (4) and he has asked for a day at home as he's too cold to go out (we are just
Back from school run) he wants to build marble run, do Lego and watch the nightmare before Christmas.
Oh and eat hot cross buns!

Longoblong · 29/01/2019 09:56

Mixing plain flour with baby oil makes great soft sand - put it in a tray on the kitchen floor with plastic cups, spoons etc and you’ll habe hours of fun Smile

In answer to your cornstarch q - add small amounts of water, food colouring & mix it in with fingers or spoon and enjoy what happens!
