Dealing with toddlers hair after glued head

That title looks weird!

3 year old charge (am a nanny) slipped yesterday and cut her head open deep enough that it needed glueing, it’s on the side of her head above her ear in the midst of all her beautiful curly hair.

Obviously we can’t wash it until Sunday but what about gentle brushing? There’s a patch that’s matted with blood and the rest was already knotted as end of day curly hair is! So how can I keep on top of it for the next week without causing any trauma to the head wound?

You can use a damp cloth to get out the matted bits as long as it doesn't touch the glued bits. As a nanny though I'd expect the parents to do this, not me- purely because if it did seperate I'd rather not have the blame/responsibility for that.

When dd has staples in her head for 10 days we just left it completely alone apart from gently gathering it up with my hands into a messy ponytail.
7 months in her head is still very sensitive although it's healed and had no problems doing so. Brushing and pulling her hair near the area causes her pain.

When my dd had this we just left it completely alone and then cut out the matted part when it had grown far enough away from her wound.

We left DDs the same as PP. Just cut it out when it was far away enough from the wound.

SD1978 I’ve absolutely no problem doing it, I work long hours and get the children ready in the morning so easier for me to do.

Thanks, she does rock a messy ponytail so I think that’s the way to go! May try and gently brush it today though, she resembles a scarecrow!

Leave the glued area strictly alone. For a toddler cleaning and brushing that area is purely cosmetic because it's not going to get greasy or scaly.

For the rest of her hair (particularly if it's curly!) spray diluted conditioner on her hairbrush. This will help the brush slide gently through her hair and detangle it. Brush as little as possible so as not to hurt or frighten her.

She can always have a haircut once it's all healed. Shame as it is to lose the beautiful toddler curls, better that than a child who now has an issue with having her hair brushed because of the distress caused by dealing with her hair while the injury healed.
