Any hairdressers about? Hoping to pick your brains please

Really hoping the hairdressers among you may be able to give me some advice. I recently got a 12 week blow dry, my hairdresser friend did it for me (for free), she's not my usual hairdresser as she lives too far away from me. My usual hairdresser is also a friend of mine. I would love to get it done again but I just can't justify €120 on top on my usual cut/colour. I am wondering if I could manage it myself? If I just bought the product and I got a non hairdresser friend to do mine and I do hers. So really what I am wondering is if the product is very expensive? If you could recommend a good brand and if you think it would be easy enough to manage?

I don't want to ask either friend as I don't want to seem cheeky or offend them but I'm just not in a position to pay the money it costs.

Thanks Grin

It's quite easy to do although there are lots of different brands that require different methods.

It would be irresponsible and undermining to my industry to encourage you to diy.

imo £120 is very cheap because of the time needed to do it properly. I charge a lot more.

I get so frustrated with people not valuing hairdressing as a real skill and whinging about cost of treatments

Thanks for the reply doubledrop I didn't mean for to come off like I was under valuing anyone, because I am not. I didn't once whinge, I understand the price, I just don't have the money not that I didn't think it was worth it and said the reason I was asking here was because I didn't want to offend anyone in rl. It was simply a case of ask, try it myself or just not get it and thought it might be worth a try, I was willing to give it a go, in much the same was as people colour their own hair all the time, it was a financial restraint , I go to her every 10 weeks for a cut colour and I just can't afford more. Thanks for the reply though I appreciate it

What's the name of the product?

I'm not a hairdresser but I know how to blow-dry my hair. Is this what you want to know how to do?

Returnofthesmileybar · 29/01/2019 10:33

shiveringtimber I was just hoping someone could recommend a good product for me to try for the 12 week blow-dry, I believe there were loads so thought someone in the know might have been able to point me in the right direction to one they had used

When you say 12 week blow dry, do you mean Brazilian blow dry?

Returnofthesmileybar · 29/01/2019 10:39

Yes sorry crazyladee I do

I understand.
Apologies but I am quite sensitive about this hence the moan!
You could give it a go but if it's not done properly it won't give you a good result. Much like when people colour their own hair... always looks awful!
The keratin lotion I buy is almost £350 +vat a bottle.....
Best tip I have for you is to take tiny sections when ironing and pass through each at least10 times...average shoulder length hair this takes at least an hour for example

No I totally understand doubledrop I'd be lost without my hairdresser and look like I was dragged backwards through hedge so just definitely appreciate what ye do. Thanks a million for the tips

12 week blow dry!! That sounds amazing 😀

Crazyladee · 29/01/2019 15:23

I wouldn't risk attempting to do it yourself. I once had a very bad experience of a Brazilian blow dry and that was in a cheap and nasty salon. I was naive and didn't realise the consequences of it going wrong.

My lovely long hair was completely wrecked and it looked fried. It took years (plus cost me a fortune in conditioning treatments) for my hair to recover from it.

Returnofthesmileybar · 29/01/2019 17:45

Oh disaster crazyladee , hhhmm see I say I'd take my chances but actually the reason I liked it so much was because I straighten everything every day so my hair wouldn't be in great condition, if it went wrong I could be fecked
