Could this count as reasonable adjustments?

I have a disability so usually I have a PA (hate the word carer) that I employ and pay their wages. I study at uni full time and there's a trip in 2 months that would greatly help me in my study as a lot of my coursework is based on that trip abroad and it would be a lovely opportunity. The university will pay for my (and all the module takers') flight and accommodation. However, I need my PA to accompany me for this as I need help with personal things and physical aspects as pushing of my wheelchair as I can't take my powered wheelchair because frankly, I don't trust the airline not to break it as it's so expensive, it's worth 10k+.

My PA can't afford to pay for the flight and accommodation for an 11 days' trip and I wouldn't be able to do so either as I would pay their wages which does not leave much room after bills to pay for the trip but I am planning to reimburse them for their expenses instead.

As the university is paying for my flight and accommodation, would it be unreasonable to ask them to also fund my PA.

I say this because I have to have my PA as any 'non medical helper' funded by DSA/uni would not be able to do personal care and that's really what I need. I would claim this as reasonable adjustments as funding my PA would mean I would be able to join the rest of my coursemates and I wouldn't be at any disadvantage.

However, I just want some fresh ears to my dilemma to see whether this is realistic.

Definitely worth asking!

I would contact student support & ask there maybe some special support that you can apply for or grant from a charity

I have no experience, but I definitely think you should ask. It certainly seems like a reasonable request to me.

Being accompanied by a carer is definitely a reasonable adjustment. You would certainly be reasonable to ask if they can fund, if not then I agree with looking whether there is a fund to apply to.

I emailed my lecturer, who is arranging the trip, last night but he probably hasn't seen it. I'll see him tomorrow anyways as we've been told to give in our passport to finalise plans and insurance I imagine.

I just don't want it to be a no as that would mean I can't go. Hopefully he says yes or a maybe at the very least. The uni have generally been very good with access and room arrangements for me on the basis of reasonable adjustments but this is a bigger form and a whole different game.
