Someone hit my parked car

A young girl has hit my parked car when we wasn’t home, when we arrived she knocked on our door immediately and told us what happened, there was damage to the left back corner of the car it was a pretty bad dent I will attach picture.

She said she lived a couple doors down and gave us her number she begged us not to make a claim because of course her insurance will go up.

So we was calm and said ok we’ll get a price and let you know, but as I was driving I heard a slight funny sound in the engine and so I thought my car was obviously hit with some force ?

Luckily we have cameras outside the house which shows the way she irresponsibly reversed so fast into my car! She clearly cannot drive! That’s why the engine is obviously making a sound.
I think she only owned up to it because we have cameras outside the house!

So if I make a claim will it affect my insurance as well or .. ?

We’re still quite unsure of what to do but I’m going to let my insurance company know tomorrow.
I’ve got an appointment at the local garage on Thursday to have a look at the car in depth and we’ve already been to a body and paint work garage and waiting to receive a quote from them.. well let the girl know how much it all comes to if she refuses to pay then we will definitely be making a claim!

This happened to me but the scum drove off leaving me with a cracked bumper
At least she owned up and offered to pay

This happened to me. Initially the girl admitted it was her fault and asked for it to be done out of insurance. I still called mine that day, told them what happened and that the girl wanted to pay privately. I got a quote for the damage and she went crazy and started screaming it was too much and I was taking her for a ride.

I went through insurance and they were great. I think notifying them initially did help. They took my car away and repaired it and I had a hire car until it was fixed. They pursued full costs from m her insurance (turns out shed hi someone else not long before me so that's why she didn't want to go through insurance. ) initially they refused to pay claiming someone hit her, causing her to hit me but there was no evidence. In the end my insurance threatened court proceedings and they suddenly paid up.

My premiums have not gone up. Use your insurance. It's why you have it.

Justagirlwholovesaboy · 29/01/2019 02:39

Don’t place yourself at risk, it you read the small print you have a duty to notify your insurer of any damage to the car insured. If you have it fixed private and something later happens in an accident they could find you at fault for not notifying them. She needs to learn from her errors and suck up the increased insurance and learn to drive more carefully. It will be a slight increase in your yearly amount, but not nearly as much

Jaxhog · 29/01/2019 12:11

@ribeeble It wouldn't have made a difference if somone HAD hit her. You still claim from the person who actually hit you. They then claim from whoever hit them. I speak from experience!

Op, if you have a protected NC then you'll not see an increase in your premium.

Just go through the insurance as you can get a courtesy car to use whilst your car is being repaired

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 29/01/2019 12:23

Don't let her leave the country without getting her insurance details!!

PattiStanger · 29/01/2019 12:36

Does a courtesy car come from your insurance or the other persons? I'm not sure if it's included on my policy and wondering if I should get it as I'd be stuck even for a few days without my car.

I'd be a bit suspicious about someone who said they were leaving the country tbh.

If you haven't paid for it as part of your own insurance you only get one where it's not your fault. Your insurer then charges theirs.

Go to the garage and get it checked out.

If it’s only the cosmetic damage then don’t go through insurance; your premiums DO go up.

Charleymouse · 29/01/2019 12:52

I would go through insurance for that level of damage. Something could have been damaged underneath.
When my car was hit in a car park whilst stationary my insurance also advised me to claim for new child seats. My car had no way near the damage that you have here so that might be worth bearing in mind.

Its definitely worth it. If the accident is your fault youll get the smallest cheapest car there is if its the other parties you get like for like.

Hi all thanks for the replies, we’ve told the girl that we will be taking it to the garage to get it checked out and after she spoke to her dad she’s decided we go through the insurers so that’s what we’re going to.
We’ve checked and I think it will affect my premium a little even though we have protected NC ?
Also don’t think the footage will help because we’ve put down the car is usually parked in the driveway but it was on the pavement that day which sucks!! Hopefully they won’t question this.

You're claiming against her insurance, not yours so where it was park's makes not a blind bit of a difference. Especially if she has admitted both fault and that she did it to her insurer.

Melon6412 · 29/01/2019 13:08

Insurance. Especially because you say she's going back to her home country tomorrow. You could well be left with no way to get her to pay for the damage, she may not even come back. Just go through the official channels.
