Extreme reaction when Injured

My teenager has just cut his thumb. He was fine, calm etc but had a real physical reaction.his face turned white as a sheet, he felt really nauseous and faint.

This has happened before....I remember it when he broke a toe and once when he had stitches. It's not immediate. .. and it doesn't last long but is extreme.

Anybody know what causes this?

I should add, he sometimes gets the same reaction if he's hungry.

I would guess it's a response to the adrenaline reaction from the fright/shock of injuring himself. Even though he's calm, it could be a physical reaction to the adrenaline.

It's called vagal-ing. A fight or flight type response. Sudden drop in blood pressure, often fainting. My dh and ds do it with blood tests and vaccinations. Just lie them down and wait maybe a sugary snack.

Also, people have a different 'threshold' for pain.
Some folk can be hyper sensitive and others hyposensitive.
So 2 people's ability to cope with the same pain, can be vastly different.
