C section survival

Hi, I'm due a section this time round and have been reading loads of the threads about prep and recovery which are great. But I am concerned about the period in hospital and can't find any info specifically about that.

Basically I want to be prepared for the worst and my DM told me about her friends daughter who was left crying next to her hungry wet baby for over half an hour as she couldn't sit up.....

I suppose my question is does anyone have tips for managing in the hosp? I know people might say ring the buzzer but this girl did and nobody came for ages.

I had pretty appalling care after my traumatic delivery with DD, long story TBH but I was at least able to force myself into a sitting position.

Milk coming in is triggered by the removal of the placenta, regardless of delivery method. I had a 38wk emcs and a 37wk emcs and milk came in just fine with both.

I was up and about catheter free within 2hrs of both cs but kept the baby in bed next to me. I had the sides of the bed up and a towel rolled up and shoved between the mattress and the bars. I've attached a picture of me 90mins post emcs. Baby is tucked in beside me and he pretty much stayed there. Even room for 4yo dd to climb on the bed.

I had my c section on a Monday morning and as soon as the spinal had worn off they had me up and out of bed. I was home by the Tuesday evening.
Whilst in bed I spent a lot of the time holding the baby as I was establishing breastfeeding and he was a hungry monster. Also my husband was with me during the day so could handle him whilst I couldn't move. Once I was up I was fine. I moved about gingerly but I was able to see to myself and baby.

The midwives were rushed off their feet when I had Dd2. She was screaming to be fed. I rang the buzzer and waited nearly 10 minutes. I couldn't get out of bed. I ended up grabbing her by her babygro. I was worried to death about injuring her.

Thanks for the photo that does help! My mind was not my own in that post natal ward and my memory of the bed seems to have been affected Grin it does look big enough
