Tap water for babies??

Hey everyone, this might sound like a silly question. My little boy is 10 months old and when I give him water to drink I still boil it from the kettle. I didn’t know at what age it is safe to give them water from the tap? Any help would be great. Thank you

Tap water as a drink is ok from 6 months

Reccy2018 · 27/01/2019 09:23

Yeah, it's 6 months so no need to faff with boiled you'll be pleased to hear

From 6 months rap water is fine! You don’t need to sterilise anymore either.

Once they can roll over and lick the floor!!

Thank you all for you're help. Happy to hear no more boiling!!! Smile

Yes, once they can get to things by rolling or crawling it is no use sterilizing things or boiling water for drinking. Defeats the purpose of it if they can lick things off the floor or roll over to get to the dog/cat etc.

When a small toddler ds1 would lick shop windows, took a lot of doing trying to stop that, had to physically move him away from them. Oddly ds4 did the same but when he was older!

NHS guidelines state you still need to sterilise bottles and teats due to bacteria getting trapped from the milk but you can offer tap water for drinking. You don't need st sterilise the sippy cups, warm soapy water is fine.

at that age I expect he has licked the wheels of his pram Grin
tap water is a solutely fine to drink unless your water board recommends boiling before consumption.
