Why am I suddenly having a period?? (Obviously TMI)

I’ve been on the implant for years and also take the pill back to back (on my doctors recommendation) so I haven’t had a period for well over a year, which has been lovely!

Woke up early hours this morning with a stabbing/burning pain quite near my right ovary but also across my uterus. Pain faded so I went back to sleep.

Woke up to find I was bleeding and had passed a couple of black jellyish lumps (1-2cm) I’m now bleeding like a regular period with associated period pains, so I assume it’s a regular period.

Thanks if you’ve got through that. I just wondered why I’ve suddenly got a period when I’ve had nothing for so long. It’s obviously not a huge problem, but is it a thing that happens?

(Only thing I’ve changed recently is I started taking beta blockers a couple of weeks ago. Pharmacist assured me there was no way they could interfere with contraception so I’m fairly sure it’s not to do with them, but thought I should mention it just in case.)

Bumping if only because my 10 year old told me it was because I’d clearly been cursed by a witch. I can’t let that be the only theory Grin

I’m not on the implant, but take the pill back to back because of excessive bleeding. Every 4 months or so I get bleeds as you describe unless I either add in norethisterone or take a weeks break. My body just seems to want to have a period, regardless of hormonal control. Nothing found on scans/ blood tests.

Oh gosh, 4 months seems unfair for you. I used to take just the pill back to back and I’d still have breakthrough bleeds then heavy ones all over the place so I really feel for you. I also had nothing show up on blood tests and scans. It’s so frustrating, isn’t it!

Ive just remembered too, my gp changed my pill to a slightly lower dose last year so I wonder if my hormones are finding it easier to ‘break through’ because of that? I’d honestly forgotten how horrible periods are Sad I’ll settle for one a year though! I hope yours can ease up somehow in the future.
