Dd has HFA, she makes illness worse and she goes into shut down and refuses meds and fluids ( vomit if forced). This is mainly in taste grounds with a sore throat.

She’s warm, not boiling. Sore throat for few days. Can see red spots at top but I can’t see tonsils as she won’t let me. Neck sore when pushed outside, she cries. No food 2 days. Brought up most liquids encouraged, kept down half cup of juice about 11 but all else brought up (with yellow liquid).

I kinda think it’s viral, but I’m worried about the fact she makes herself worse. But she’ll HATE ooh GP.

Would you ride out, or check at this point?

Normally I’m confident with this question for siblings (is just tick them up in bed at this stage probably). But she throws me. She’s 7 bit poor communication abilities

Do you actually think she's dehydrated? To fix that they would get her into hospital if you can't get her to drink.
I'm not sure what GP would do for her.

Would she take ice lollies? (Guessing not?)

shutuppeppa · 26/01/2019 16:34

Tried the usual ice lollies/ ice cream/ chocolate/ favourite cup and bottles ideas

I guess I’m concerned it’s tonsillitis and needs antibiotics and she’s also making it worse

I think I saw a white bit in throat, but really hard to see

Personally, I leave things as long as possible in the hope they improve with time. Not the best advice, I totally agree, but I know that a course of antibiotics entails restraining our kids 3-4 days and forcing antibiotics into the side of their mouths like a horror scene from a suffragette force-feeding movie.
Is there anything at all she’d like to eat? Any absolute favourite treats?

Sorry, that should read ‘3-4 times a day’

shutuppeppa · 26/01/2019 16:52

I just got about 3 mouthfuls I’d hot choc in, but it was out in the bucket in minutes.

I normally ride things out. Source of paranoia: she has done this before to the point of having fluids in hospital sedated, though she’s a bit bigger now.

I’m now wondering if sore throat is from acid vomit? Last ate solids I think early morning Thursday

My daughter is the same (undiagnosed as yet) when she is ill. It's horrible for them (and us!) isn't it Sad

I would take her if you are worried. Hope she feels much better soon Flowers

Would your DD be able to cope with such as Difflam throat spray? (Minty flavour)

3out · 26/01/2019 17:22

It’s a very tough call for you to make as every outcome has a large resulting impact. I hate these times :( It would be slightly easier if it was like the ‘old days’ and the OOH dr did housecalls, I think it was easier for kids to trust a ‘guest’. Everything about visiting OOH is so incredibly stressful.
Have you got a social story about how it’s important to drink? The pain element is a huge obstacle though.
Hope she’s better v soon
