I didn't realise it takes a bit of simmering for the flour to thicken it properly. I just kept adding flour until it was nice and thick. Just read I should only of put one table spoon, I just kept sprinkling a bit on top then stirring so not sure how much I put but definitely a lot more than one table spoon. It still tasted nice when hot on the pan but now it's in the fridge with mash on top waiting to go in the oven later.. is it going to taste awful? What happens when you add too much flour?

Mince
With onion, sliced carrots, mushrooms.
Gravy made with oxo and bisto best, dash of worcs sauce.
Lots of mash on top.

One of my favourite comfort foods!

Glad it turned out well. I use flour - if it's good enough for Delia it's good enough for me, and yes no time to cook mince for 2 hours!

Welshgal1 · 26/01/2019 19:23

I made it with lamb, carrots, peas, onions, tomato purée, tinned tomatoes and stock cubes! Just not sure what happened today it seemed quite runny and it would of ruined the mash so I added flour and it worked wonders!

You don’t need stock cubes for shepherds pie mince.

GreenTulips · 27/01/2019 11:57

Tomato? So wrong!

MariaNovella · 27/01/2019 12:26

Mincemeat needs tomato IMO

melissasummerfield · 27/01/2019 12:47

I always use tomatoes and stock Blush

Bumblebee39 · 27/01/2019 13:14

Can't believe all these people using tomatoes
Do you use them in fish pie too Shock

TinklyLittleLaugh · 27/01/2019 15:15

I make a creamy fish pie without tomatoes. But I also do a fish stew thing with tomatoes, peppers and beans that, thinking about it, would probably be quite nice with mash on top. Hmmm.

Never ever had a shepherds pie with tomatoes in it! You learn something new every day.
