Gymnastics at home - bars

My girls love gym. One is 10 and only does it at school but the 6 year old goes to a gym and is loving it. Her favourite is the bars.

Is there a way we can practice/get stronger at home safely?

I seem to have come across...

  • a bar you screw into the door permanently or hand on a door frame - this looks good for lifting up but wold it be the wrong angle?

  • a temporary bar thats done on pressure in the timeframe. You sirt of put it half way up and twist. Im kind of nervous of them swinging round on it but would that be okay with a mat underneath (the ikea green bedroom one!)? Is it safe?!

  • some sort of freestanding bar for lounge/garden. Tiny house issues....

Im both aware im not a coach so dont want them to get into bad habits/i cant tell if what thyere doing is right/safe and aware theyre desperate to swing and practice and hang.

Maybe a screwed in one to hang from? And the temporary door one to swing round on? The high screwed in one would probably mean they regularly do a few pull ups.

One we can get out on a saturday just to swing round would be good. But is it safe?!

Oh my brains spinning. Can anyone tell me!?

So something like this? The fittings coild be put higher and lower so the bar could be moved.

But am i right to assume the screwed in fittings are better!? Its quite cheap.

Ask the coach at the gym.
Likelihood they will be fine with leg lifts and chin ups, but against free standing one.
Best to ask imo.

Thanks roller.

They really want to spin round a midheight door one... which kind of worries me!

Will ask at gym next week.

Our gymnastics club recommended this one.

Ooh thankyou. And good to know the clubs okay with it. Do y ou just use it "high up" to lift up to or do you let them use it lower down to swing round (i know none of the terminology!)

Thats just like the ones i was looking at!

We have the door bat and also amazon sell ones you cement in the garden - we just put a gym mat underneath

GenerationBlueMascara · 26/01/2019 23:40

The door bars are not really for swinging on. DD is a gymnast and has one but only for pull ups or leg lifts.

I kind of thought that might be the case, and was leaning towards screwing the base circles in place higher up.

However a friend (and plenty of american gymnsats on you tube it seems!) has one they play with lower down . My daughters are pretty much beginners maybe they could "play" while they're younger but stop using it that way if they got any good/older? My main worry is that they hurt themselves. I will see if i can grab a coach at the weekend.

So just wondering what happened when you asked the gym?
