Getting baby poo out of clothes?

Cardiffclare88 · 26/01/2019 11:39

What’s your secret? Dd has some explosive poos and her vests and baby grows often have a bit of yellow/green on the back and round the legs even after washing. She’s got sensitive skin so in using an eco baby detergent. Some of the bedsheets also have mystery stains and marks that don’t seem to come out. Any tips? Everything looks quite dingy despite being quite new! We haven’t got any sun to hang things in unfortunately.

Soak overnight in a strong solution of biological washing powder (not liquid) and warm water prior to usual washing method.

I use the Astonish spray stain remover and that seems to be pretty good on poo stains (and also things like bolognese sauce). To get things properly white again I tend to chuck some white vinegar in with the clothes and then do an extra rinse at the end. Also make sure your washing machine is clean for whites - so a monthly maintenance wash at 90 degrees with white vinegar in the drum or a dishwasher tablet in the drum, and take the drawer out to clean it then too as the residues make things grey IMO.

If they're white then a bit of bleach on the stain, rinse off then in the wash.

We swear by Napisan- found in the baby aisle

Ariela · 26/01/2019 12:26

Wash with bio powder, add some Vanish if dire, hang outside to dry the sun bleaches it (even if cloudy it helps)

dangermouseisace · 26/01/2019 14:23

I would put some ecover laundry bleach [couple of tablespoons) in a bucket of water, then soak overnight. I’d then rinse in the washing machine before adding other items to the wash. Got all sorts of marks and stains out of clothes that way.

DramaAlpaca · 26/01/2019 14:24

I always found that the stick type of Vanish worked.

If God, DS went through clothes as a newborn! We have a specially designated poo bucket - spare washing up bowl to rescue clothes. Not something anyone tells you you'll need with kids but there you have it.

Soak clothes overnight in vanish powder and wash as normalSmile

Another vote for Napissn

I just bin them 🙈

Sunlight is the best way to get out the stains. In the winter, you can hang them up at the window to catch the odd ray.

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2019 14:44

Napisan or Bio D

DaffydownClock · 26/01/2019 16:20

I used to soak in Vanish overnight then wash in bio detergent + Napisan and do an extra rinse cycle.

MulderitsmeX · 26/01/2019 18:14

Honestly sunlight is the best! I leave stuff out for a couple of days and every poo stain gets bleached out!

AnotherPidgey · 26/01/2019 18:21

At this time of year it can take a few days for sunlight to work, but in a few months, it'll be a few hours Envy

AnotherPidgey · 26/01/2019 18:22

Grin not Envy. New baby poo isn't so bad!

WordInYourShellLike · 26/01/2019 18:48

Another vote for sunlight - you can get more natural than that! Works well on tomato based stains as well.

CrazyOldBagLady · 26/01/2019 18:50

Vanish spray then wash at 40 with biological washing powder.

chilledteacher · 26/01/2019 18:51

Napisan!!

PotteringAlong · 26/01/2019 18:52

Sunlight. Line them day and night.

Or don’t worry about it and just put them back on, especially the vests.
