Help! London trip itinerary

Hi all,

Been around for a while but this is my first post- I’m planning a trip for a group of 15/16 year olds and have a day in London to fill.

Will probably do the eye, dungeons etc via the hop on hop off bus tour. Also considering the Olympic park with giant slide. There’s also the possibility of a museum.

Does anyone have any suggestions for things that I absolutely shouldn’t miss out?

Also would like to book a show for the evening before but not sure what will be the most captivating for this age group. Has anyone seen anything brilliant recently?

Thanks in advance!

The Olympic Park and the museums are opposite ends of London- you’re going to have a very long day if you’re hoping to do both along with the other stuff.

These are all just possibilities at the minute until I iron out a proper plan with timings etc. Just looking for ideas as I’ve only been to London a handful of times but want them to have the best possible time!

The Tate modern is huge, has loads going on, a great free view over London. I wouldn't bother with the Olympic park.

I wouldn't do the dungeon. It's a bit of a waste if this is a rare opportunity to see London. Better to spend the time actually seeing London. The Museum of London is free (as are all the big museums and galleries) and might be a better use of the time, if you want something indoors.

Where, as in which side of London/which railway station will you arrive?

The tfl.gov.uk site is a good resource for getting around London/ways to pay on public transport. You can hop on and hop off the ordinary buses, and have a greater choice of routes than on the tourist buses.

Don't plan too much to do. DH and I took the DC a few months ago, dropped off by the coach at the Natural History Museum at 10am. We wanted to see the NHM, the Science Museum, the Eye, the Aquarium etc. We just about made it through the NHM and back to the coach in time for departure at 7pm!

Brilliant, thank you!! Will look all of those. Sounds like we’ll scrap Olympic park and the dungeons.

Really wary of not being overambitious time wise but this will be the first time they’ll have been and want them to love it!

@MartaHallard we arrive into Paddington but hotel is near Euston - we’ve also got about 3 hours to kill near Euston on the morning we leave.

Very near Euston (nearly next door) is the British Library. There are always free exhibitions on, plus it's a popular place to hang out. Note that you can't take your luggage into the BL, but the hotel will probably look after it for you after you've checked out.

St Pancras Staion, the other side of the BL, has a shopping concourse, but I'm not sure any of the shops would appeal to teens. The architecture and the Betjeman statue are worth a look, though.

The British Museum isn't too far, about 15 min walk I should think. The mummies are usually the most popular, but I like the Sutton Hoo treasure.
