Company has been bought.

No news on what will happen with employees yet.

Does anyone have any experience of this

Every merger is different, but yes, the company I work for got bought (by a smaller company). Lots of people had to reapply for their jobs because there were too many sales people for example. The whole business got restructured. Then they bought another company, and it all happened again. Then they did more restructuring and reorganising. It has been endless for the last 5-6 years, and it still ongoing now. Somehow, I have managed to survive every redundancy round, kept a similar role, which has expanded (good, more challenging), and had a couple of good pay rises/promotions.

Emotionally, it has been awful. I still feel no loyalty to my new parent company or it’s senior leadership. But at least I have kept my job.

Yes. Twice.

First time it made no difference. New email address but same day to day.

Second time nothing much changed in the first year but then we were brought closer to their failing corporate structure. I left for a better role.

I survived two mergers in my previous job. Third one I was made redundant. Have survived two further mergers in my current job too. Just hope there isn’t another!!

Surfingtheweb · 25/01/2019 22:59

Yes, I kept my job, the culture totally changed after the redundancies & people were left with too much work & not enough time. The people that were made redundant got payouts & better jobs. One lady had been with the company a week when it was announced, she's still there 3 years later. Try not to worry about it, but definitely start looking for another job. It's a horrible thing to go through as people are obviously worried, angry & upset.

Sever al times. I have 12 years continuous service but across 4 companies.

  • Started working for an outsource
  • Client decided they wanted to bring it in house so we were TUPE'd
  • Sold to a private equity firm and went from charitable to profit making business
  • Merged with another organisation
  • Then the bit i work in was sold so TUPE'd again

Honestly its been great for me for experie nce and career progression.

Give it time to see what happens

Toughtips · 25/01/2019 23:03

Thanks. I spoke to my manager about what might happen today and they don't know yet. It's a fab environment and don't want to be at risk so I'll remain positive and try not to worry.

Yes. It didn’t affect me as one of the “professionals”. It was the support staff who were at risk of redundancy (IT, HR, finance, admin) because they were the ones who were doubled up by the merger. Also, some managers were superfluous and had to compete for a reduced number of positions.

EmmaC78 · 25/01/2019 23:13

Yes, a company I worked for was bought over by a larger company. My line manager changed but my day to day job didn't. I left about a year later but it was my own choice.

VanGoghsDog · 25/01/2019 23:31

Twice worked for companies that were bought. First one, we were medium sized, they were globally huge. I didn't like them and left about 9m later.

Second one it didn't seem to make any difference at all.

I work in HR and have managed loads of mergers and TUPE transfers. They are all different.

BillThePony · 26/01/2019 11:52

Yes and all staff who wanted to stay on did, we also has tupee rights so kept the a/l I had accrued for long service etc.was very worrying beforehand though

Toughtips · 26/01/2019 12:02

Thanks guy's. Will sit tight for now cos I really like my team. Fingers crossed not much changes for us.

Some years ago now, the company I worked for was bought by another, larger company it worked out well for many of us as their T&C were slightly better, plus they had bought our company in order to expand, so there were plentiful opportunities for training, and advancement. In my case I got a lovely promotion and change of location (far nicer commute), nicer car, mobile phone paid for and the opportunity of a comparatively massive annual bonus (which was 25% of salary, and perfectly achievable), foreign trips and other incentives too.

cstaff · 26/01/2019 12:39

I was part of a small company that got taken over by a company about 10 times the size. There were no redundancies but a large percentage of the small company left of their own accord - me included.

TSSDNCOP · 26/01/2019 12:43

Yes and the advice I add it to stay positive and outwardly at least support and embrace the change. I know it sounds silly, but I think the people that are thought to be able to roll with the change are those they keep.

Toughtips · 26/01/2019 15:10

Thank you. Going to stay positive and not worry until there's something to be worried about x
