I've tried everything labelled "sensitive on skin" etc and nothing helps. Thinking of trying the Eco Egg but don't want smelly washing!

Surcare worked for us 👍🏻

Cadsuane · 26/01/2019 07:53

In our house we can all use Surf (the pink one) and Surecare but always use less than required. I can use the Aldi sensitive one but does not suit eldest. .

Fairy non bio is what we use for my son. We've tried other non bio/sensitive types but he complains of itchiness. It's annoying as I don't think it is particularly good as a detergent so his laundry is done separate to ours. A

Fairy non bio and no fabric softener.

Rogue1234 · 26/01/2019 08:09

I have eczema and use fairy non bio.

Not sure if it's still current advice but when I was a kid and covered head to toe in eczema, the consultant told my mum to stick to a brand for at least a couple of weeks before trying something new, as the constant changing could be aggravating my skin more and I just needed time to get used to it.

GruffaloStick · 26/01/2019 08:16

Ecover Zero powder

VictoriaBun · 26/01/2019 08:19

I needed to see a hospital dermatologist for my eczema and she told me to only use half of what I'd normally use. There is also a product in many things, washing powder, liquids, washing up liquid, even bubble bath, shampoo and conditioner called Methylchloroisthiazolinone. She advised I keep away from products containing it. I have and my eczema is greatly, greatly improved.

TheVonTrappFamilySwingers · 26/01/2019 08:20

Persil non bio here and absolutely NO FABRIC CONDITIONER.

I think any non bio is fine. Agree with the trying something for more than a few weeks and also an extra rinse cycle.

applespearsbears · 26/01/2019 08:27

Another for Ecover Zero powder

We tried the simple tabs but they make the washing rock hard

LoniceraJaponica · 26/01/2019 08:37

Paradoxically, using Ariel cured DD's eczema, and I hit on this quite by accident.

I was using all sorts of non bio washing powders and liquids, and eco eggs, and the eczema got worse. The washing machine started to stink as well.

On a mumsnet thread someone posted a link to this website. Clearly my washing machine had developed quite a lot of mould and bacteria build up, and it was this that was causing the eczema.

Using a bio powder (not liquid) with a few hot temperature washes killed off the mould and bacteria. The result was a smell free washer, and another happy outcome was that DD's skin cleared up.

It isn't the enzymes in bio powder that cause the eczema, but the fragrance that is added to it, and washing at low temperatures.

I now use Ariel bio for whites and lights, and Fairy non bio for colours. I also use Fairy conditioner. I also wash bedding and towels at 60 degrees.

Surf used to work here, but now I use blue Method which has been great. Ds is super sensitive, I have to take sheets to other people's houses or he'll break out in reaction to their washing stuff. Definitely no fabric conditioner ever. I also won't have anything containing Methylchloroisthiazolinone in the house.

iamboudicca · 26/01/2019 08:46

Persil non bio is the only one we can use here. I even have to take it on holiday and have a secret stash at MIL.

MariaNovella · 26/01/2019 08:48

Agree with PP that eczema (and many other skin conditions) can be triggered and worsened by poor washing machine hygiene. Wash clothes and (especially) sheets and towels at high temperatures, rinse well, never use fabric conditioners and keep your washing machine ultra clean by doing hot washes and also by cleaning it.

Unescorted · 26/01/2019 08:50

Aldi non bio. Sheets, towels and anything that touches the skin for long periods of time - t shirts, vests, PJs, underwear etc. got a second rinse cycle without soap. Fortunately she has grown out of it now.

Amy326 · 26/01/2019 09:23

Fairy non-bio seems to irritate my dd the least, but it has to be the powder, the liquid and tabs do irritate her. I’m currently trialing no fabric softener and I think it’s helping but I do miss it! Was using comfort pure. Also only use a small amount of powder, not as much as it tells you to use. I’ve tried completely fragrance free stuff but I just don’t feel like the washing is that clean.... it might be psychological though! Sadly it’s just trial and error with this one!

Starlight456 · 26/01/2019 09:25

My Ds now 11. Still use fairly non bio and pure comfort

EhlanaOfElenia · 26/01/2019 10:22

If you struggle to find one, put the washing through an extra rinse cycle, or even a complete wash cycle, to get rid of more of the detergent.

Inforthelonghaul · 26/01/2019 10:22

DS has terrible eczema as a baby and toddler and I used Fairy non bio. When he was about 4 I read somewhere about hard water and eczema, we live in a very hard water area. I had a water softener fitted and for the last 10 years or so it’s been brilliant. His eczema cleared away within weeks and I started using biological powder (Ariel is my usual) or liquitabs. I only ever use half the doseage recommended and my washing is always clean. I had no idea there could be a link but it’s definitely worked for us.

FredMerc · 26/01/2019 20:15

Simply Pure tablets - pink bag here too. Used them for DS from 1 month old, he's 5 now and anytime I switch the Eczema returns.

Momzilla82 · 26/01/2019 20:17

Bio D laundry liquid from ethical superstore. It has some sort of allergy U.K. Logo on it but it cleans really great. We buy it in 5litre bottles

mumsastudent · 26/01/2019 20:18

persil non bio unscented & an extra rinse cycle

applespearsbears · 06/07/2019 15:00

We had to cut all fragrances out so think shampoo soap and laundry liquid. I now use Ecover Zero which is fragrance free you can get it in Waitrose or buy in bulk
