Hi all, just after a bit of advice.
My daughter is 2 years old and yesterday woke up with a high temperature I think it was about 39c. She was refusing food but still had plenty to drink, said her head hurt, mouth was hurting, she slept more than usual and temperature did come down with ibuprofen.
Took her to docs who said although ears and throat were a little red she didn't want to prescribe antibiotics because it should sort itself out on it's own.
Fast forward to this morning she woke up absolutely fine like her usual chirpy self, no temperature. Few hours ago I noticed a rash on the back of her neck, I have done the glass test and it does fade (I think I've done it correctly?) Her nanna has suggested its eczema but i dont know and over the last hour she feels a bit too warm again. I've attached a couple pictures of the rash am I worrying too much or would you get it checked now?

If she still has a temperature I'd get it checked. Better safe than sorry.

If her temperature has gone I'd be less cautious.

Post viral rash? I’m not a medical person but when my dc were younger they used to get them all the time. DH and I have also had them. Harmless, sometimes itchy. Piriton helps.

It looks like a harmless rash, maybe related to the virus or getting hot with temperatures.

Keep a good check on the rashes - dangerous rashes eg meningitis are usually darker in colour and won't change under the glass test - if you're not sure how to do this properly check some videos on YouTube.

If you're worried about temperatures not coming down/ not drinking/ not weeing you will need to be seen again, 111 over the weekend.

I find they get so many random rashes. My LO just had a virus and came up in a rash after - doctors just check it passes the glass test/ blanches and then declare it viral rash.

Illnesses with rashes include scarlet fever (doesn’t look like that) and Rosacea - rash comes up when temperature goes down

My DC2 always gets hives post virus.

We have been on a loop the past 6 weeks of:

  • 2-3 days high temp / off food completely / miserable / mainly staying on sofa
  • another 2-3 days of reduced appetite and low energy (but a little more active and eating a little) and the bloody hives.
  • 3/4 + days of being back to normal

Rinse and repeat. Sigh.
