A nearby area has just announced that an 18 year old will be standing for election for one of the local political parties. What’s your opinion? Do you think that they can do a good job with so little life experience? They’ve been a member of youth politics and school council.

I think I may have read an interview at some stage in which WH expressed regret for being elected conservative leader so young.

kitten. I must have misunderstood.

You said I personally wouldn't vote for him/her, no, but I also wouldn't vote for an old fart who has forgotten what it's like to be younger.

I took that to mean that you would like to influence the nature of the candidates selected by parties whose manifestos you support.

Aha, that explains your answer, thank you for that. I am very much pro democracy and therefore absolutely support that there is a diversity of people of all ages with different views standing for election to give the public a good range of choice who to vote on. The OP also asked if posters would vote for an 18 yo and no, in that case I probably wouldn't. I tend to vote for people around my age range with roughly the same views as me. I feel that that represents me better. (So old farts are the next step after this Wink)

Depends on the person whether or not they'd get my vote, but I'm impressed by their getting involved at such an early age. Bodes well for the future.

Exactly this

In theory, I have no problem with it.

Anecdotally, I've know 4 or 5 18/19 year old candidates and they have always been absolute arseholes.

I think mps should be representative of the population - age, sex, race, wealth, education, etc
