ADHD coping strategies

Can't find a previous thread I wrote on this topic, but I have recently discovered audio books and podcasts as brilliant methods to

1 Actually learn and finish 'reading' books and articles

2 Achieve more around the house when I'm listening so I get more cleaning etc done.

But I'm struggling still with time management and prioritising. I've since discovered that an ability to comprehend time is another symptom of ADHD - ie, thinking something will just take 10 minutes and getting absorbed in it, or not understanding how you know you need to leave in 5 minutes and ending up outside the door 17 minutes later.

So I'm working harder at alarms. I'm hopeless at time boxing. Like, the worst. I've been trying to follow Team TOMM (cleaning system for home) for 2 months and I'm still on Zero days completed.

I read recently that a habit forming is a great way to leave your headspace free and if you can set up strong, great habits you can free up a lot of thinking time by just automating certain things like cleaning and gym, and walking dog.

So I'm trying it all out. Ish.

Like many it a difficult to go to bed with a racing mind but I need to go to sleep earlier so I can start the day better!

Please tell me if you have ADHD what works for you? Flowers

No one posted on this but I do have another one I love!

First thing in the morning I brain dump things to do (excluding the obvious ones like taking kids to school) , and then with a sensible head - I sit and prioritise them.

When I'm dawdling or distracted- I remind myself when I sat and looked at the day and planned it doing X first was the best thing to do and then Y, then Z.

I feel much more productive.

I get no satisfaction from to do lists at all, I feel like each thing never gets ticked off properly as jobs only get half done. And if I write down the 'easy' jobs I feel overwhelmed by a fuller list. But writing a priority list is helping my focus at least!

I don't have a diagnosis but meet so many of the criteria! I'm trying to implement many of the techniques you have mentioned but not doing so well. Obviously as I'm on my phone not doing the diy I started earlier! I do find trying to use timers helpful and the team Tomm Spotify list to motivate.

I'm not on spotify, I had assumed the TeamTomm list was just music to listen to whilst you cleaned? Is it not?

Squeaky. Pick one habit then get it cracked.

I'm just about to buy a book Atomic Habits. I heard him talking about it on a podcast it sounded amazing.

A friend of mine with ADHD wears her headphones when she’s trying to get stuff done to help her focus.

Wish I could be more help - I wonder if you posted on a different topic here if you would get a lot of good advice? Chat is very general.
