So upset-facing redundancy again

5 years ago I had a horrendous redundancy experience in a public sector job. They put us through 3 months of uncertainty, the atmosphere was terrible and I lost clumps of hair through stress.

Luckily I walked straight into another job and although it's not as challenging, I like the job, have s great team, a brilliant work/life balance and the pay is reasonable.

This morning our whole company were told we're all at risk of redundancy. Totally out of the blue and with no warning whatsoever.

I just can't fucking go through this again. They're looking at voluntary redundancy to begin with. It will go to compulsory if not enough people apply.

It's brought back all the memories of my last redundancy experience and I'm gutted I might lose what is one of the best jobs I've ever had.

I'm trying to stay positive but I feel so sad I'm having to experience this again.

I am sorry, OP SadFlowers I hope you have supportive friends and family around you.

I have got a wonderfully supportive family and friends but it's such a kick in the teeth. I know its not personal but I'm so worried about Brexit and how this will affect our organisation.

Of course I may escape redundancy but I think I'll have to start looking for jobs anyway just to cover myself.

So sorry you have this worry again 💐

I hope you can stay on, as you like this job so much
but you are wise to do preliminary job-hunting, just in case

and build up savings too

It’s horrible, I’m sorry x

The thing even about staying is that it won’t be the same if there are less people to do all the work.

I am sorry this is happening. I have been made redundant at least 4 times and left 5 jobs where redundancy notices were issued within 12 months of me resigning. At the time the uncertainty was dreadful but each experience has resulted in a better job, more opportunities and personal growth. I have never been without work but you need to learn how to apply and get networking! Good luck x

Thanks for replying.

I had a decent night's sleep but I can't help but worry.

You poor thing, I sympathise with you so much, I was made redundant last year, very clinically and calculated, after working for the same firm for 13 years when they brought contractors in. Tbh, it broke me mentally, after disbelief and bewilderment I pretty much had an emotional breakdown, it was truly horrendous, after 4 months out of work, I got a job in a very menial role compared to what I was previously doing. My new bosses are very lovely, I miss my old colleagues so much though, but I could not bear looking for a new role ever again, so I will stay as long as they want me and enjoy a stressfree life. However now my old colleagues have all been put at risk of redundancy so I probably dodged a bullet there, they've had the further stress of working within a steadily declining business with uncertainty of what is happening next I wish you so much luck and support OP , it's a horrible situation to be in, take care x (flowers)
