If I describe my dream location, can you tell me if it exists in the uk?

For planning my retirement or imaginary other life Smile

So, I'd like to live in a village or small town, with good transport links to a big city. Don't want to have to be too reliant on a car. Some nice scenery, so countryside, but ideally near to the sea or on the coast. Some sense of community and amenities, shops pubs etc.

Any ideas?

Battle,East Sussex

Lee-On-The-Solent opposite the Isle of Wight. Good bus links to Portsmouth and Southampton. It's on the sea but has a nature reserve behind it for great walks.

I've visited Northumberland and loved it. Am going to look up these other suggestions too. So many beautiful places I'd never have thought of. Thanks.

Formby, Crosby or Southport all lovely, and Liverpool is an amazing city.

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/01/2019 22:04

Hexham, Durham, Thirsk, Ripon. You definitely need to come North.

Petitprince · 24/01/2019 22:06

Yes yes to north east too. Also east anglia.

Jakadaal · 24/01/2019 22:06

Wylam in the Tyne Valley or Morpeth, Northumberland

New forest
Countryside and coast, excellent train link to Bournemouth, Southampton & London. Very very low crime rate, selection of villages or small towns to choose and a wonderful sense of community.

bananaramaspyjamas · 24/01/2019 22:13

Wow there are so many of these that I want to visit. That's my holidays sorted for the next few years Grin
Still looking at all the suggestions. Which I am thoroughly enjoying.

Morpeth, Northumberland, I don't live there but have family who do.

OrigamiZoo · 24/01/2019 22:17

It's just the weather .... do you need warm summers?

rosybell · 24/01/2019 22:21

Wivenhoe is only 1hour 10 mins to London, it's on a pretty river with lots of walks, 15 / 30 mins to the coast. Plus it has its own bookshop/deli/cafe...

DameFanny · 24/01/2019 22:21

It's niche, but www.google.com/search?q=Trowse&oq=Trowse&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l3.4082j0j7&client=ms-android-motorola-rev2&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#ip=1

It's a village, with fields and cows, but you can walk to the centre of Norwich - or the rail station - in 20-25 minutes.

NicoAndTheNiners · 24/01/2019 22:29

Holt, Norfolk.

Justgivemeasoddingname · 24/01/2019 22:29

This is Helensburgh absolutely. If I had the money I'd retire there.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 24/01/2019 22:39

You are assuming that the floating bridge (chain link ferry) is working Laska. Which isn't a good assumption since they got the new one.

SingleDadReally · 24/01/2019 22:42

Somewhere between Exeter and Exmouth

CharminglyGawky · 24/01/2019 22:54

Chichester, or surrounding villages. It's on main train line, close to Portsmouth and easy train ride to Brighton. About 20 minutes drive from some beautiful beaches in the witterings or pebble beaches at selsey or Bognor. It is technically a city but a very very small one, feels more like a small town, awesome weekly market days.... can you tell I'd move back in a heartbeat if we could afford it!!!

MsJaneAusten · 24/01/2019 22:57

Arnside.

Regular trains to Lancaster, Ulverston and Barrow (connections to Manchester, London, etc from Lancaster)

Great community. Local pubs. Brilliant chippy. Good walks. Close to Lake District. Most homes have sea views.

frodo1 · 24/01/2019 23:00

OneStepMoreFun · 24/01/2019 23:00

Blankiefan · 24/01/2019 23:01

Aberdeen.

bananaramaspyjamas · 24/01/2019 23:01

Warm summers not really necessary origami

I really want to visit Helenburgh, Morpeth, Lancaster, Wylam and Formby and surrounding areas now, but they all look great.

What a helpful lot you all are Flowers
