Help me identify this night time noise

I live in a ground floor flat and every night in my bedroom there's a noise. It sounds like above my bedroom but I'm not sure. It's a bit like an extraction fan, stops and starts regularly. It's not very loud but I'm aware of it and as I have issues with noises it's stopping me sleeping and making me anxious. At first I thought it could be someone snoring, but it's too regular for that. Last night I was still awake at 4.00 a.m and it stopped and didn't start again. It's never there during the day.

I don't speak to the people up there so can't ask. The area is very rough and the building always smells of weed. I'm now wondering if this is somehow something to do with heating for growing weed as I heard a conversation regarding someone above me growing some.

Any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like some kind of fan/vent. Likely if they are growing cannabis. Or maybe a normal bathroom fan that comes on when it gets too hot/humid.

My thought too. I just can't understand why it's only on at night.

I know it's annoying when you can hear a continuous noise. My partner has sleep apenoa and uses a cpap machine, it's not that loud so doubt you'd hear it into another flat. I can't hear it if in next room.

I've had trouble sleeping recently and tried white noise or meditation app but they didn't help.

I now listen to podcast called sleep with me, www.sleepwithmepodcast.com

it's an American who has a quite relaxing voice and he prattles on about nothing in particular. I've never made it till the end off one off his shows!

I also use Bluetooth eye mask headphones which I find comfortable to sleep in, like this

as I heard a conversation regarding someone above me growing some.

OT but this is known to increase the fire risk so I’d be very cautious if you genuinely think it’s a possibility.

Thanks. I can't wear an eye mask to sleep, I struggle with things like that.

I heard his friend or girlfriend tell him during a fight that she'll tell the police ... screaming at the top of her voice Confused

Could you tip the police off anonymously?

Thats no fun having neighbours like that OP

I have also tried white noise but it doesn't work for me, I find it annoying. Wish I could find comfortable sound blocking earphones comfortable enough to sleep in..
