Anyone work nights?

I really want to get a job. The problem is I have four dc (6-13) and a husband who is out of the house 07 30 - 18 00. The DC do a lot of extra curriculars, some to a very high standard so require the committment, which means we are out most evenings and the days at weekends. We are currently renovating our house but we are going to run out of money soon and I would like to get it finished.
DH and I have a company and are self-employed although my role is very minor to his contribution.
A jobs has come up which is a night shift from 20 00 until 06 00. It is a decent jobs in a field I have some training in and am interested in.
Everyone I speak to think it is a terrible idea. In my head I could get in at half six and sort DC and house out, sleep after drop off, get up at pick up time and continue as normal until work time again.
I don't think it would be a long term position but would be good to get back to the workforce and has the least impact on my family.
Does anyone else do a permanent night shift? Am I being completely unrealistic in my expectations?
TIA

I worked nights (nursing) and think it would be fine. 5 night in a row is doable, splitting them would be harder.

I worked 8pm - 8.30am and would get home for 9.30, and need a bit of down time before being ready to sleep. I'd collect DS from nursery at 5pm ish and it was fine.

I work nights in a supermarket, 5 nights a week. I cope with it fine, but agree with a pp that family time on days off will be difficult, you need to balance the need for sleep with being present with your family. Your body gets used to sleeping during the day, so when you suddenly don't on your day off you definitely feel it.

Having said that. It works very well around my children and husbands job.

I do 2 nights on the trot, mine are 12 hours long.
I do the school run after my night shift. Go to bed and have about 3 or 4 hours sleep then go and pick kids up from school, do tea then go to work again.
I feel physically sick some nights at 3am, head aches, and feel very unwell.
On my night off I go to bed at about 8pm when my little one goes up after his swimming lesson, tea, shower but I literally drag myself to school and swimming.

I feel irritated, no energy and no concentration, I’m not a nice mum I think.

I do also work 2 other jobs which are days and evenings though!! That said I do not feel that awful on my day shifts.

Imagine going to bed at 9.30pm then getting up at 12midnight then not getting to bed until 9.30pm the following night... that’s how my working/sleep pattern is.
