I have just been reading another thread where the OP was worried about Social Services visiting and lots of posters said what type of things SS look for. One of the things mentioned was that they check to see that the children have a proper sleeping area, ie their own bed and bedding. Now, we have no involvement with SS at present I don't have any reason to worry that we will, but it got me thinking about our bedroom situation.
We have 2 bedrooms and 2 children. Eldest DD10 has her own room, youngest DS2 doesn't (would be unfair to make her share with a 2 year old boy anyway). DS2 shares with me and DP, not only shares the bedroom but we co-sleep too. I co-slept with my DD until aged 5, but she always had a bedroom ready and waiting for her. We are currently renting a council house which we have just started the process to buy. We will be looking to add an extension to create an extra bedroom, but this will be at least a year away.
The thread got me wondering, what would happen if we had a visit from SS while we have our current sleeping situation? I would continue to allows DS to co-sleep for as long as he wants regardless of how many actual bedrooms we had, but would we be judged because he doesn't have his own sleeping area?
