Chicken Pox - Tell me when it gets better please? :(

So DD 4 came out in chicken pox on tuesday morning. So we're only on the 3rd day. And she is just so upset. She's nippy and itchy and doesn't like getting her cream on, freaked out about a bath last night. I've also woken up with the cold and am just feeling so helpless. Dreading DS 2 getting it.

Me and DH meant to be going away at the weekend, and my sister is happy to have them but I just do not know if DD will cope. Need to try and make a decision because I need to try and sell our Les Mis tickets if we're not going. I am gutted.

I have anxiety/phobia around the kids getting sick, I'm already terrified our disney holiday in March will be ruined due to sickness, this is really throwing me off kilter.

Help :(

I should add DD will also be gutted if she doesn't get to go to my sisters. So upset all round.

Anyone got any thoughts?

You have my sympathies, my DD got chicken pox when she was four, she would put some of the cream on her arms and I would be doing the rest. She didn't like having a bath with spots so we let her go without for a few days. Used Calpol too, as DD got some spots in her mouth, she'd only eat cold yoghurt on those days.

By Saturday you'll probably find that she is a whole lot better so stick with your plans.

Hope your DD is soon feeling better and enjoy your theatre trip.

Which cream are you using? I personally avoided cream as it makes the spots wet and boggy.
Have you tried sodium bicarb in the bath? It neutralises the itching. Piriton and calpol every 6 hours?

Virasoothe more of a cool gel worked well for us, usual oat sock bath etc

We were using the mousse stuff from boots (poxclin I think?) But wasn't sure it was helping so I bought Eurax which we've used this morning and seems to be helping.

Have ran out of bicarb but did put a little in the bath last night that we had left. Is baking soda the same thing??

Also doing Calpol and boots own antihistamine liquid stuff.

She's been a wee bit better since this morning tbf

My sister is the only one that ever has them to stay but she's two hours away so it's obviously not often. So I'm especially antsy around it because we all enjoy it (kids staying away, us getting a break!)

My niece liked oatmeel in the bath. It helped with the itching. Just put a few handfuls of oatmeel in the thinnest tea towel (or cheesecloth if you have it) you have, knot it and put it in the bath as soon as you run the water.

Oat baths
Virasooth or poxicillin. I’m sure one comes in a spray.
Calpol
Ice lollies
Then the same as all illnesses lots of drinks, cuddles, sleep and small bits of food that they fancy even if that’s ice cream.

Oats in the bath helps. Large scoop of normal porridge oats, tied up in the foot of a pair of tights so it doesn’t doesn’t go down the drain.

I’d say it’s probably good timing for your weekend, DD will probably be much better and your DS won’t have it yet. Don’t panic Smile

Exploding kitten beat me to it Grin

Thanks everyone for your help and good wishes. Trying hard not to panic Judge
