Small lump in leg after bruise

I have a small hard lump deep under the skin on my thigh right in the middle of a faded large bruise I received after a car accident on January 7th. The bruise site is still sore if I press it to feel this lump although the bruise has faded a lot. It hurts to press on this lump/knot. I've had some whacking great bruises in the past but never had a lump left over.
Is this normal? I did see something on line (I know, I know) about blood clots forming after trauma. Should I get this checked out or trust that it will eventually shrink and disappear? If anyone has advice or similar story I'd like to hear, thank you very much.

Crikey. Poor you. With an impact that size, it's quite normal to have a small lump. You will have had a lot of bleeding under the skin. It can take a few weeks to go. As long as it isn't hot, getting worse and you're otherwise well, I'd give it some time.

Thank you so much for your reply. That's reassuring. It feels like a very big pea and I did think it was just a normal part of having such a large bruise but of course I scared myself after typing in "Lump after bruise" and all this DVT stuff came up. I'll keep an eye on it. Thank you 😃

Totally normal! I had a huge bruise once that left an egg sized lump for ages, nothing to worry about. It will disappear eventually.

Ace thank you! Just what I wanted to hear!

When I had one, my friend who is a nurse said to gently massage the area a couple of times a day, it helps break it up.

Likely a little haematoma caused by the accident. It will eventually get reabsorbed by the body!
